Manchester Airport Terminal 3 - Clean restrooms

Your first told to walk down a dark stairway to wait for a bus. Once there, it's not exactly clear when the bus will come and if there are different terminals. However, once on the bus, the bus driver does guide you a bit. Once you are off, they make you wait in a sitting area until you can pass to the next section. I was waiting for about ten minutes. Next, While in the airport waiting area, expect 1980s style seating with limited food and things to do. Bottom line: old and not updated airport that has archaic way of moving people from one section to another. Nothing to do during your layover with limited choices to eat or shop.

Despite only being served by a small number of airlines, including British Airways and RyanAir, the queues here always seem to be increasingly long, with wait times of over an hour to drop off and reclaim my baggage before and after my most recent flight, a RyanAir flight to/from Milan Bergamo. I was unable to find any gluten-free food and drink options here other than crisps and a bland soup. Even beverage options were limited for those that didn't want water or soda. Boots, Caffe Nero, Costa, KFC and WHSmith all have stores here, there is a BIZA duty-free, which is pretty much the traditional duty-free at an airport, nothing better, nothing worse. I also found a lack of announcements ahead of my outbound flight to Milan, the flight was delayed and the board simply didn't update, and then it caused a mad rush to the gate when it was announced. A badly understaffed airport, with awful planning, awful service and only a small number of facilities after going through security, not forgetting the high drop-off charges, this Terminal needs to be knocked down with resources split between Terminals 1 and 2, as this terminal does not do any justice to one of the world's greatest cities - Manchester, nor does it do any justice to Manchester Airport. It's a sad sad mess. 1*

Manchester Airport Terminal 2 has been subject to a lot of attention lately, it's currently…read moreundergoing a £1.3bn investment programme which is much needed. The Terminal re-opened in 2021 and in terms of overall looks, the main atrium is stunning and puts the other Terminals at the Airport to shame. Terminal 2 features a selection of places to eat and drink after security, including Archie's, Barburrito, Pot Kettle Black, Pret, San Carlo and Wagamama. There is also a Starbucks before security, but you won't be able to take your coffee with you from here. There is also a small selection of shops including Airport regulars WHSmith and Boots, which is also joined by JD Sports, and Marks and Spencer, although the latter is in the Arrivals area, again before security. While the Airport certainly looks better and in terms of appearance, it felt spacious and comfortable with a wide seating area, it still is Manchester Airport at the end of the day, which always seems to have constant problems from the sky-high drop-off charge for picking up a friend or ordering a taxi, to the staffing issues. The cost to drop someone off at the Airport is £5 for 5 minutes, or £6 for 10 minutes, with the pick-up charge being a set £6, this is similar to a couple of other Airports in the UK, which just seems like another money-making scheme. I first used Terminal 2 after my flight to Prague in July 2022, and the long walk to passport control was exhausting, it makes me wonder if they rushed opening the Terminal solely to meet the demands of flights having replaced the old Terminal 2, as the new security area is still in the process of opening. It's also a bit out of the sticks to get to Terminal 2 from the Manchester Airport Station (for train and tram), it's a walk across a long footbridge, when Terminals 1 and 3 are again much closer, so you will have to allow more time for T2, as I found out the hard way when arriving into T1 from the Doubletree by Hilton, which I stayed before one of my recent trips to Terminal 2. Despite, a good number of food options there isn't much for gluten-free brands I'd personally want to go to, having had issues with San Carlo and Wagamama before who'd be the obvious choices. 3* - The Airport looks great and for a second you'll think you're in an Airport which is run with a shred of competence but I just think it's overhyped and they've spent too much time promoting a fancy modern design rather than working on practicality and the quality of the businesses located inside, but still it's a big improvement on the old T2 already and with some changes, it is hopefully going to get better.
