I first tried Center Parcs some 20 years ago and thought I'd found my dream holiday for the rest of my life. It had a wonderful combination of natural beauty and necessary amenities, everything seemed laid back in a euro-hippy sans dope way and you couldn't help but relax. But why am i talking in the past sense? well, it's because that idyll that was Center Parcs is in the past. This used to be an affordable holiday for families where you knew there was something for everyone without taking out a second mortgage but now it has become a rather pretentious resort for the well to do with more and more 'luxury' accommodation and families definitely don't come top of the ideal customer list. We used to love taking the children to the spa where they could have a swim and try the sauna and steam rooms, they loved it and the family sessions meant that anyone who preferred children absent had plenty of space. Last time I was there there were no family sessions and we were quoted about £35 pounds for my partner and I to have a session without the children. The real cost of our few hours was approx £120 once we had factored in child care. Everything around Centrer Parcs (I actually visited Sherwood Forrest) has bowed to commercialism, there are still pleasant cafes and restaurants but they have had to make space for truly terrible fast food joints that make McDonald's look gourmet. I'm pretty sure the multi-denominational chapel has been replaced by a Starbucks and that really says it all.

What fun is CentreParcs? And I'm an adult, so what must be it be like to be a kid there on holidays? The free activities are pretty fantastic: Playgrounds - looked like great fun, alas I was too old and big to go for a play in any of them Pool with slide, wave machine and whirlpools - changing rooms system impressed me, especially under-floor heating. The slides are fun too. Wave machine I could pass on, but I am sure great fun for most people though. Paid activities were quite good too: Driving range - clubs and golf balls are well worn out and inferior to be honest, but it's a cheap activity here. 2.50 GBP for a club for as long as you want, then 1 GBP for about 15 balls. Good fun. Archery - excellent fun. Again the arrows are well worn out, but the bows looked a good standard to me. The instructor was very nice and good fun. It's a recommended activity here at CentreParcs. Canoeing on the lake - OK, lake is small so you get to see most of it quite quickly. 30 mins is plenty of time. Bowling - Good fun also, but pins on strings? That's a new one on me. Obviously a system best suited for CentreParcs. Facial at the Spa - it is a pricey activity, but the spa is pretty amazing. You get to walk around in a posh dressing gown in the warm under-floor heated spa. The facial was uber relaxing as was the post-facial lie down I had in their relaxation room. It's heaven and highly recommended. The villa we booked was a luxury one that had sauna, pool table and all en suite rooms. Two of the rooms had a balcony. The view from the one at the back of the house was out onto forest and was great for a bit of bird watching. The bedroom was comfortable and bed had nice sheets. I did find the hairdryers provided in the bedrooms were pretty rubbish; I didn't bother with the one in our room again after the first use. Bring your own in my advice. The kitchen had some extra useful appliances like dishwasher, coffee machine and juicer. Games room was nice, pool table was used everyday. The PlayStation was not used at all as none of us brought any games. Of the eight of us in the house, only one person has a PlayStation at home and he forgot to pack any games. Regarding the CentreParcs compound itself, it's massive and so nice with all the trees planted everywhere. The wildlife too was a highlight - with the squirrels (albeit grey ones) and rabbits. Not to mention the ducks, geese, moorhens, pheasants, robins etc. We walked everywhere, but bicycles would be the best mode of transport around the whole place. And again I'd advise bringing your own. At 58 GBP a pop to rent a bike for a week, it'd be cheaper to buy a bike rack for the car if you had two bikes to bring. The centre village, where the pool is, also has a supermarket and a range of restaurants. Supermarket is a little pricey, but very very handy. If on one visit your total shop comes to over 40GBP, they will deliver it to your villa for free. Great when you are buying heavy goods like bottles of beer. The restaurants were fine, highlight was Strada. I had the Spaghetti Ragu that was very delicious. The garlic pizza bread was not a favourite, overcooked and too dry. Overall I recommend a CentreParcs, especially for families with young children.

just had an excellent mid week break, wanted to make a special mention for Eve (Cafe Rouge), thank you for making our holiday that little bit special, what a lovely lady. Hope to see you again next year. Dennis and Sue. read more
Myself and about 29 of my friends descended on CenterParcs for my 40th birthday. Don't worry its really not that sort of place and a good proportion of the 30 people were kids. Myself and 12 others stayed for a week in March, when the prices are not too bad. However it can be pretty pricey in the summer / main holiday periods. We stayed in an 8 berth executive villa with hot tub and games room and 4 en-suite rooms. It was perfect for me and my friends. It also sported a great gas BBQ. The place is set in woodland and has a lot of wildlife, rabbits, birds and squirrels will follow you around all day long. The list of activities you can do is almost endless. I myself did the following activities ( I have rated each ) Archery 5* ( £16 for 45 minutes ) Golf Driving Range 4* ( £10 per hour, club hire and balls basically ) Badminton 4* ( £11 for two people including gear hire ) Pool 5* ( Free ) Nature walk 4* ( Free ) Bowling 2* ( 28 per lane per hour, very noisy and low quality lanes & balls ) Canoeing 3* ( £5 per person for 30 minutes or so, quite a small lake but still fun ) Cycling 3* ( £58 to hire a bike for a week, bring your own or share ) There are a lot of food places there, we tried most of them so I have rated each. Note as the restaurants are pretty much the only thing you can do the prices are a bit higher than outside. Strada 4* - Nice Italian food and wine and good staff. Cafe Rouge 2* - Food ok but overpriced. Made 2* - poor service and average takeaway food Rajinda Pradesh 3* - Not a bad Indian at all. Hucks 2* - Noisy as hell american diner and not great food. Takeaway service 4* - The takeaway service was really good actually they provide Indian, pizza and Chinese food. Overall mainly because of the company this was my best birthday ever, a great place. However it can get crowded and there are a lot of kids so if you don't like kids I would avoid. If you have kids they will LOVE THIS PLACE! read more
I went to the Longleat Center Parcs last year on a boozy weekend with my mates. This weekend I was with my family in Sherwood one of whom is just 15 months old. Center Parcs is definitely more suited to the latter. We had an executive villa which was a big step up from the standard ones, all en-suite with a built in sauna and super close to the swimming pool. We took bikes but walking would have been fine cause the site seems quite a bit smaller than Longleat. We didn't need to pay for many activities because there was enough to entertain my niece, playgrounds, beach, pool, although we did go kayaking on the lake (£10, 30mins, 2ppl) which was fun. The real attraction for me has always been the pool. It pretty much caters for everyone with fun slides for all ages, my niece absolutely loved the baby pool. The one negative here is that the grand cascade (the biggest slide which you go down in a raft) isn't open for the same hours as the pool (11-7 compared to 10-9) and when it is you have to queue up a cold noisy dark staircase for up to 30 mins, it really isn't worth it. A lot of people talk about how expensive it can be and that is true, but if you take your own groceries with you it can be as cheap as you want it to, we didn't need to eat at any of the restaurants which aren't particularly expensive. Overall though a great time read more

Centreparks is a great place to go for a weekend break with lots to do for all the family. When I went, I stayed in an executive lodge, which is about mid range. There were 3 double bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom. A kitchen area, a lounge area and a dining area. There were also patio doors leading to a patio and BBQ area and sauna! The lodges are all built at a certain angle to give the impression that once you're inside you're the only people there as all you can see out the patio door is woodland! There was FANTASTIC wildlife aswell, one morning we woke to find a family of swans tapping on our window! it's amazing to get up close with them. We also had lots of other furry visitors during our stay including squirrels and ducks. In the centre itself there is tonnes to to, there's a swimming pool, which is what everyone associates with Centreparks which is supposedly very good, but must confess I didn't go in! Theres a sports hall where you can book a game of practically anything you want! I chose table tennis, but there's football, basket ball, squash, miniature gold, boating, bowls, bowling - even rock climbing!! you have to organise yourself well as theres so much to do but it's well worth having a go at something you've not tried before. There's a number of restaurants on site such as Cafe Rouge and an American themed bar as well as it's very own pancake house! I would recommend though, if you're on a budget bring your own food with you as the restaurants are not cheap! read more

Center Parks: It is a shame really? It is a shame that my first ever yelp reveiw had to be a bad one. I would have loved to say how amazing and unique it was but the truth is only parts were like the room service and the scenery. But unfortunately that was it the pool was half closed and the best bit of the water park was drained. If that was not bad enough we had aqua jets which were cancled and moved to 10am in the morning that we all got a letter on, also we did not recieve it and it turns out we have no letter box. But then the bike rental decided you know what we are going to screw these people a hell of a lot more by charging us twice to if you want a decent holiday or one better than center parks I would suggest going to butlins or haven. Thankyou and Goodbye read more

I've seen the adverts and seen the prices and have argued with my dearest wife that it wasn't worth the money staying there. She booked anyway and I've had to eat a load of humble pie. She was right and I wasn't. I should have known better as the concept was invented in the Netherlands and after all I'm Dutch! I loved the concept, the villa we stayed in was fabulous, much better than a hotel room for sure. Living in the forest is magical, especially as all the cars had to park off-site after unloading luggage and thereafter your feet or 2 wheels are the only method of transport. The only time you see lots of people is during check-in and check-out times. The rest of the time it doesn't seem that busy at all. The amount of activities available are amazing. Apart from the swimming they are extra to pay for, but really it's not a big deal. The people in the resort are fantastic, this includes the cleaning staff and all the service staff in the restaurants. They really have been trained to make sure you have a wonderful experience. The food was of a very high quality and plenty of choice of different menu options. And of course you don't have to go out for food, you have all the facilities for self-catering. We had an executive villa and it was fantastic. Just the right facilities and very comfortable. You can guess by this review that I will be back next year! read more

I booked CenterParcs as a secret surprise holiday for the family and my husband's 40th birthday. Before we arrived I had sent on balloons and banners to be put up in our chalet before we arrived. When we got there it was extremely busy as it was October half term holidays and as we had never been before it was a little confusing about checking in and finding your chalet. Then we wanted to hire some bikes and that was very very busy too! Eventually we got to our chalet and it had been decorated with the banners so it looked really great. The chalet was very comfortable with great beds and kitchen and a nice big tv and settees for the six of us. We enjoyed going out on our bikes, and the swimming pool is fantastic with the slides which I loved and the rapids. For eating we tried the pancake house and an american grill restaurant which was very delicious. The only problem we had was a slight leak in our ceiling in the bedroom and we did try to complain but I don't think it was actually fixed before we left. It was a very busy week and some of the activities were already fully booked so I would recommend booking before you get there as most people must have done. We went to one of the functions which was a fancy dress Halloween party with a hot buffet and entertainment which was really fantastic but a little expensive. All in all I really want to go back as soon as possible as the whole family enjoyed it so much! read more
