Toy Cupboard offers a wide range of both boys and girls items, including the old and traditional train sets/Barbies, to the more modern children's crazes for example trading cards. Upstairs was were i scampered, to the toy cap guns, 'top trumps', and more. Although some items have become pretty pricey, most is modestly priced, perfect for easy children's birthday and Christmas Presents.

I was lucky enough to go when it wasn't too busy, but boy it's still quite overwhelming. I was only looking for a toy bow and arrow to accompany a fancy dress outfit but it was impossible to find anything here. I looked around for a member of staff for help but couldn't find one, i walked around the entire store twice but still couldn't find one, I looked and I looked...not one member of staff! Eventually I had to queue at the cash desk to speak to the singular staff member...only to be told they don't sell bows and arrows. I couldn't get out of this store quick enough - although that's easier said than done as there is only one exit that you eventually find once you have been channeled around the side of the shop. As I said, it's enough to put you off having children!

This is a really delightful store specialises in wooden children's toys. I thought looking at the stock as I came into the shop that it would be expensive but was surprised to find it was very reasonable. I bought a wooden kitchen from this shop for my toddler before Christmas and am very happy with its look and quality. The owner was chatty and very helpful and even let me reserve the item with no deposit. The hand puppets are really good quality and highly quirky. I really like the set up play green grocers with wooden toys in crates, each vegetable or piece of fruit is around 50p-£1. I also bought £2 spinning tops and wooden cars. They always have plenty of stock, and lots of special offers. The Basingstoke branch doesn't have a toilet and baby changing facility, which is worth knowing as most branches have, but thats the only downside. Staff will go out of their way to help you. If what you want isn't on the shelves, they will go and check the warehouse: and last year when everywhere was sold out of pink DS Lites they weren't allowed to reserve stock for people but would call you as soon as the item came into stock.

Well, they've quite a lot (if you crane your neck to look up as well as down) and the prices are pretty competitive. If only it wasn't so bright, garish, there was an opportunity to rest your feet (the store's pretty big). Anyway, I still exited lighter of wallet, lighter of heart (got what I was looking for) and pleased that I, a father who has precious little time to go to real shops, managed to contribute to my little ones happiness.

My one piece of advice would be, if you see a bargin, grab it while you can as it may not be there next time you go. The staff are friendly and helpful but don't know themselves what is going to be on the next delivery. There is a small car park attached to store but this is often full, there is a council pay and display carpark just across the road. A shop well worth popping into regularly to spot a bargin or two.
