I have both make-up artists and hairdressers that I love in Chicago and had high hopes of flying both in for the wedding...but apparently that's not in the wedding budget. My mom was at Neiman Marcus one day and discovered Lindsay Morley at the Laura Mercier counter. Lindsay is around my age, blonde, with blue eyes...and she did her own makeup very well so she thought she may just be the right person for the job. Today I had my trial with Lindsay and my mom was right. I found a picture of Bonnie Somerville in a magazine with the exact look I was going for- natural with smokey eyes. Lindsay was not only able to copy this look, but my makeup came out even better than the girl in the magazine (sorry Bonnie- next time you should hire Lindsay ;)). I've gotten my makeup done many times in the past and there's always one little thing I rush home to change, but in this case everything was absolutely perfect! I took one glance in the mirror when Lindsay was done and told my mom to book her immediately for my wedding day. And Lindsay is not only a fabulous make-up artist, but a pleasure to be around as well! Nothing turns me off more that pushy make-up saleswoman & Lindsay couldn't be sweeter or less intrusive. The stylists are talented and consistently do a great job, which is why this situation was so disappointing. I had booked appointments for myself and my 3-year-old daughter--a dry style and a kids blowout--because we had a mother/daughter beach photo session scheduled. Unfortunately, due to a poor weather forecast, our photos were rescheduled to the following day. I called to see if it would be possible to move our appointments to Monday, but was told the salon is closed. I then asked if we could switch to other services, like pedicures or waxing, since getting our hair done before a day of swimming (on Monday) would be a complete waste of time and money, not to mention unnecessary heat styling. I was told only hair stylists were available and no alternatives could be offered. I also asked if I could receive a credit for a future appointment and still be charged that day, but this request was denied as well. I understand and respect the need for cancellation policies. However, these were two concurrent 30-minute appointments, and the complete lack of flexibility--even for a long-time, loyal client--was disappointing. I was told there were no exceptions and that I would be charged in full. As someone who has frequented this business for a decade, I would have hoped that loyalty might carry some weight. It feels short-sighted to risk losing a long-standing customer over two 30-minute services. Unfortunately, this experience has changed my perception, and I won't be returning to Cloud 10 in the future.
