These are more traditional Spanish dishes. Excellent fresh, local fish is grilled just to the right degree: done but still tender and moist. The beef cuts are of very good quality, cooked at the right speed in the oven to also be tender and moist. The simple classics like salmorejo and gazpacho are excellent starters here. The same is the true for the cheese selection. There are some very nice options for vegetarians (nod to my wife). The wine selection is fairly good. The service is better than most. You will not be disappointed, and I must say, it is NOT pricey at all. It is something different, a change from the other cuisine that you will typically find in the area. This is truly a hidden gem, a rare find, and by all means a bargain! They are closed Sunday evening and all day Monday except in June and July when they are open every night. You will have a set menu. In our case it was 6 courses for 36€. There is a full wine list with plenty of reasonably priced vinos. The service was phenomenal - we did not pour an ounce of wine ourselves. If the glass was near empty it was promptly filled. Same held true for the water. The place settings were immaculate - not a fingerprint to be found. The food was mind blowing. Everything was beautifully presented - artistic, flawless, just mesmerizing. They have, compared to most of the restaurants in the area, the ability to renew themselves and the menu. Especially the tasting menus they offer Fridays and Saturdays. Sometimes they are excellent, sometimes very good - but they never let me down. I have eaten French, Italian, Asian and Indian meals here - all very well prepared. This summer I asked the restaurant to set a surprise menu for eight people - and they did - six courses with passion. Ingredients with high quality, like lobster and foie gras, excellent tenderloin and a superb dessert. Los Laureles hasn't the largest wine menu in the area, but they have chosen a very good variety of Andalucían (there are some very good ones), paired with a good selection of wine from other regions. Unfortunately many restaurants in Almunecar have mostly low or medium quality wines on their list. Cred. to Los Laureles for their ability to find wines that pair the courses very good and at the same time are very price worthy. Compared with the other restaurants in the town, this is a five star restaurants. 10 minutes walk from the tourist traps and you are trapped in the best restaurant in town - and like to stay...
