It's a Barber shop. No frills, good haircuts at a good price. Typical barber shop banter included for free.

The price is beside the point; he comes from the era where cutting hair was one of many skilled crafts, not something you learn to do at night school. He has one of the most loyal customer bases I've ever seen, and after getting a haircut there, you'll see why. He is extremely responsive to whatever you ask for, and is adept at making your hair look full without feeling heavy. If your hairline is a little funny, he'll notice, and he'll make it look good, instead of just cutting it normally. Everywhere else I've ever been has felt like a standard cut. Like says, "Nothing but the best, from the best, for the best." Oh and I've had him shave me/trim my beard when I went through that phase, and it was like going to a spa. Warm shaving cream, a switchblade razor, a towel on his shoulder, the whole deal. I've lived in New Jersey, Arkansas and now Brooklyn, and I always wait until I come back home to get a haircut -- sometimes I come home just to get the haircut.

I have long hair, which generally should not be cut at a barber shop but I thought I would try a…read morelocal place for a trim. Having called this shop, the guy assured me that "they cut all kinds of hair". Arriving immediately, the place was packed with chin straps and fades...should have known, but since I was given complete assurance at all turns that people who work there know what they are doing, I fell for it. As the haircut began, the guy assured me he knew what he was doing, yet strangely kept cutting more and more off and all the while, the on lookers saying in spanish "you are cutting too short" he replied with "i've never cut long before, jajaja"... He would occasionally take a break, to go for a drag out front, and then to sell something to a customer who did not come in for a haircut in the back. He also made sure I knew that a friend of theirs had recently been to the "joint" as well as how much he likes having sex. Pretty impressive, I know. I felt far more assurance by his coworkers, a yankee fan and another kid who seemed earnest about the trade. Unfortunately, I can't stop there as I have told this story over 50 times and it continues to get laughs so i'll keep going. After cutting my hair down atleast 3 inches shorter than I had indicated - asking to "just let me pull it back if you cut it too short"...he cut it too short. He began squirting more and more water onto my curly hair and coming out and straightening to basically pull my hair back into the shortest prison pony ever seen in Willimantic. Next came the kicker. Without asking me, he drops the chair back and goes at my 3 day stuble with a razor...!without asking!. As he is working around my chin while holding conversation with someone else, I feel the sting of cuts across my upper lip and chin. He then reacts as follows "Damn bro, you're bleeding all over the place! Your pores are too big yo, you gotta tell me that!". I kid you not people. If you have gotten this far, you are here for the Lol's but this is for real. With a gigantic wry smile on my face, I get out of the chair and he charges me 40$ for having long hair and the shave. Knowing that this is the last time I am getting near this clubhouse, I go to the ATM across the street while he watches me from the doorway like I am walking away with his piece of artwork. Free from his eyes I get a snapshot of my face on my phone and realize he has left the grossest foo-man-chu on my face, exactly like the one he has. I sent the picture to everyone I know and at this point it was beyond my embarrassment. I return with the money he asked for and he said how do you like it, responding with it being too short, he said "next time its on me." Nice try bud. To be fair, this guy should have been let go since I was there 2 years ago, but in case he hasn't, be sure to ask for assurance that the person cutting your hair is going to do as you wish and whether a shave is included, and how much that will cost you, and if they need to know how big your pores are.
