We really had no idea where they actually were. Each campsite was sold with electric and water, but while there were two electrical hookups there was only one water and one picnic table between the two sites. Crews picked up trash and cleaned bathrooms. Feral dogs were noted several times and prairie dogs had their holes everywhere. With that said, I would stay there again. Do not miss going to the Red Rock Museum. Alayna, the curate, was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The displays were great.

I was grateful that the park was available and functional. Definitely not the worst park that I've ever been to by any means, but certainly not the best. The location was a bit isolated, so I was nervous being there alone with my two children at times. It's definitely not the kind of place I would ever visit after dark. To get to the park you drive through a neighborhood that doesn't look like the best place to be. Not the end of the world, but something to be aware of if you're visiting. That aside, there was decent playground equipment, swings, benches to sit on, and trees that provided some nice shade. It served its purpose as a quick energy burn spot. Just note that there aren't bathrooms available, so if you're looking for a restroom, this isn't your place.

Window Rock is one of two prominent features in the park. This rock arch is located on the far side of the park from the parking lot. The hole in the red rock would frame the blue sky behind if you were here on a sunny day and make for some impressive pictures. There is also a super-sized bronze statue of a Navajo Code Talker, honoring those individuals that served in this vital role during the second world war. The statue is detailed and depicts the patriotism and bravery of these individuals as they served in the United States military. The park is surrounded by the tribal offices of the Navajo Nation. It is quite impressive to see the different services that the tribe provides. If you are just driving through Window Rock, you should take the time to visit this park and see the towns name sake and the Veteran memorial.

Zuni Pueblo…read moreis truly a hidden treasure in the New Mexico desert that I stumbled across quite by lovely accident. My imagination could not have captured the unique spirit of Zuni Pueblo. This is a great place to stop and walk around for 2-3 hours. I walked around the entire site, which took at least an hour, and admired the extensive graffiti: from native Zuni, Spanish Conquistadors, Gold Rushers, Wagon Trailers, even early 1900 teenagers. A one-mile trail will take you straight up to the top of the pueblo where you can appreciate the extensive views. The Zuni tribe initially lived up on the mesa, a flat land overlooking the entire area. I was told that the Zuni tribe migrated 30 miles away from here possibly because their water source had dried up. There is a grotto filled with water at the base of the mesa. The archaeological sites of former housing is still accessible. Unfortunately, because of winds and tourists, the archaeological digging had to be ceased altogether. On the day I saw the pueblo, there were no other tourists. I was able to experience the magic of Zuni Pueblo alone. A short 30 mile drive away will take you to the modern day Zuni reservation. Keep your eyes open for locals selling their own handmade Zuni fetishes for a quarter of the price that the American-owned shop sells them for.

Zuni features a number of art and native jewelry shops along its 'Main Street.' The Zuni Visitor Center (also on the main street) is helpful and friendly and will provide information on visiting local artist studios; assist in finding a local guide to show you the old section of the village; and provide information on discounts to local businesses. Definitely a good place to start. We were here the first weekend in May and thoroughly enjoyed the Zuni Main Street Festival and Art Walk. Everyone we met were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Although not advertised to the general public, we were invited by local artists to attend the incredible evening plaza kachina dance. An unforgettable experience. Zuni is close to the El Malpais National Monument and is a great place to enjoy lunch after exploring the sites of El Malpais.

We…read morethe People Park is a public park that has a bunch of sculptures that celebrate Gallup's culture and history. The biggest one is a 110-foot semi-circular wall of figures that is inspired by the local community and was designed by Armando Alvarez. There is a locomotive, a guitar sculpture that pays tribute to Jerry Garcia and a sculpture that pays homage to Gallup's mining history. Around the park is a 1/4-mile walking track that surrounds the sculptures. We the People Park is located right off the 40 highway and is a nice park to walk around. I am a big fan of public art installations. I recently did a sunset photo shoot in this park. Unfortunately, it can be a bit sketchy at times because of some of the homeless people that hang around.

Waited 30 minutes in line (they won't let you in a minute sooner than the specified time) to get to the register to find out children 4 and under are required by state law to wear swimming pants (otherwise known as "Pull-Ups"). By the time I drove all the way back to the house my grand-niece who saw the kiddie pool and got excited fell asleep. I was quite irritated for both of us to say the least. Had a lot in my head I was going to spew out to aquatic center's management but took a deep breath and handle myself as nicely as I would like any person to address me in such an instance. Spoke to management, Michelle, who let me express my disappointment and ask that she please inform her staff that any phone queries regarding the kiddie swimming pool be handled with as much detail as possible since the next person may not handle a situation such as this so graciously. Michelle apologized and offered my grand-niece and I free swimming passes for our next visit. **** Good customer service **** is the reason I give the aquatic center five stars even after my disappointing first visit.
