The track is setup around a really nice football field and the officials were very professional for the event. The school grounds were kept up nicely and the track was well established. The setup was really nice as they had bathrooms centrally located and the food shack was well stocked with hot and cold foods. I really loved it, and I'm proud to have gone there, but with the school's reputation getting worse and the marching band having gone downhill since I graduated in 2005, this school is most likely on its way out. I'm going back one last time for alumni band, and to bid my high school band director farewell and a happy retirement, but beyond that, it kills me to admit that I could care less. We had a little bit of everything. An English teacher who reportedly slept with a male student and had his kid (years before I attended the school), a math teacher who slept with the senior cheerleaders so they'd get A's and graduate (it was on the local news for years after!), a football team that never wins, and a long-standing rivalry with West High School. During my years there (2001-2005), we had three different principals, and only Mr. Shreiber was worth anything. Our band director, Mr. Aaron Jackson, has been lauded through the years as the best teacher in the entire school - every teacher has a story about AJ and his band students, which we honestly can't say about any of the other teachers. I won't deny that I could've gotten a better education at another school. I might have had more opportunities at another school. At the time, though, Briggs was the best fit. I'd spent three horrific and hellish years at the absolute worst middle school in the city - on the complete opposite side of town - and going to Briggs was coming home. I really don't know how gay-friendly the school is now, but it was weird while I was there. The gay guys were out and proud and everyone accepted them. God forbid a lesbian came out at any point during her time there. There were a grand total of four lesbians in the marching band, and only one came out during high school. She dropped out because of the toxic and hateful environment. The other three - including myself - learned from her experience and came out after our respective graduations and have been treated well. In summation, Briggs was great for me while I was there, it was a good school before I was there, but after I graduated, it's gone downhill pretty fast.

Binns Elementary was a great school prior to 2006. I graduated from the school in 1998 after six…read moremostly-wonderful years there. I learned a lot, not just about reading, writing, and arithmatic, but about social skills, music, and art, too. I'm not sure what the school is like anymore. The building I knew and grew up in was demolished in 2006 and replaced with what appears to be a smaller, more "modern" facility. I just remember being a student and loving every second of it. I had teachers who encouraged learning and cared about their students. I had two wonderful principals who took their jobs seriously and, while completely different in personality, they took care of the students in their charge. It was a safe environment for everyone.

However, the manager of the library talks at full volume throughout the times it is open. I can always hear her through my noise cancelling headphones, so it can be a great place to study quietly but ironically the disruptions come from the literal manager of the place which is frustrating.

The gym is small, but has nice bleachers and a pretty slick scoreboard for an elementary school. This is my family's 4th year at the school and we could not be happier. I have 2 students and would…read morestrongly recommend it for the following reasons. First, the strong support and encouragements given by teachers and staff. My children know all teachers, and they know them. Everyday they come home to stories about how this teacher helped them this day and another, the next. When we have had issues arise, I have always been impressed by how communicative the teachers have been and how receptive they are to listen to my concerns, and those of my child. It truly has been a loving environment from day one. Second, tying to the support and encouragement, I have seen amazing academic results each year because of teachers taking the time to address individual needs and work with my children. My children feel confident when it comes to learning and have been well prepared when it's come time to take tests. Third, I love the fact my kids are growing in their Catholic faith through partaking in community service, attending mass weekly, and daily religious instruction. I feel confident that they are becoming good stewards of their faith and better and more compassionate human beings because of it. Lastly, I love the sense of community. Parents and students alike enjoy spending time at the school and school functions. The smaller class sizes facilitates getting to know each family and it also encourages and enables any and everyone to be involved with the school. At St. Agatha you are not a face that gets lost in the crowd.
