I got the first Riesling listed under those of Trier and it was sweet and smooth. For my meal, I got the first pizza listed under the white pizzas. It had honey, goat cheese, and bacon. Both of my selections were recommended by the waitress and were so delicious!! She was easy to communicate with and happy to help us. The man who seemed to be in charge was so kind and checked on us repeatedly throughout the meal, asking us where we were from and shaking our hands before we left. It was nice to feel genuinely welcomed by a restaurant! We couldn't ask for a better experience. There are many tables out on the patio and also tables inside, where it was cool and comfortable for a hot July day.

The menu is traditionally Italian, with pasta, pizzas, meat, and fish dishes based on southern Italian classics. On our visit, service was friendly and efficient. On our first visit, we both had a side salad, followed by pasta. Side salads were very fresh and generous, with proper Italian dressing. Both pasta dishes were well, flavoured and - joy of joys - the pasta was al dente. We decided to eat here again before we left Trier. On our second visit, I had a pizza Contadina (vegetarian) and my partner had scallopini Italia, a pork escalopes, topped with tagliatelle and bolognaise sauce. Again we were impressed with the quality and, while generous, portions were not excessive. Recommended.

Waiter was attentive but not overly so and was prompt with the bill, a happy turn of events for our anxious American sensibilities. A great find. Good crowd of locals on a Monday night. 5 stars. Dinner was mediocre. Wine was great. However, there was a family that insisted on allowing their children to run around and randomly yell. This is located right next to the Karl Marx Haus, so it's pedestrian friendly and convenient. Seating is quite limited, however. So be prepared to either take this to-go or to fight for a seat. Most people ordering were taking their items to-go. MJ Pizzawelt also serves spaghetti and select Middle Eastern dishes. This is a must for a quick bite to eat that will fill you up and not break the bank. I will likely become a regular.
