Honestly I would say the category is a bit incorrect because when I think of art gallery I think of…read morea place where large expansive pieces of art hang on the wall and the proprietors stare at you with unblinking eyes. This is not that place. Sure, they do have a whole large section of native art. It is quite spectacular. Majority of it is sculptures carved from soapstone in various sizes from pieces that fit in your hand to pieces larger than a car. As each piece is a unique item carefully crafted they are quite expensive, but also quite beautiful. It is well worth the look. The front half of the store is a mixture of different artisan items. There are t-shirts that are all hand printed. Beautiful hand crafted jewelry fill the cases and remarkable buttons and pins are all around. There are some touristy items as well such as maple candy, maple syrup in mini-packets, small mass produced sculptures, and a few mugs and glasses with whimsical sayings. The store was extremely pleasant. The lady behind the counter was a gem as she never balked when we winced at some of the prices. She was understanding and considerate of our price range, which is actually a rarity for a store with high end items. She informed my mother about the backstory of the small sculpture she bought of a dancing bear and told her that she actually was buying something more true to what would have been the normal size when these sculptures were originally done, which pleased my mother who really wanted the bear that was ten times larger. It was an extremely pleasant experience and one I recommend to travelers in the area for unique souvenirs of the area.
