Even if you are only seeing a play at the Avon Theatre and not at…read morethe Stratford Festival Theatre, I'd still suggest making a stop at the Stratford Festival shop beforehand. The surrounding area is very scenic, especially during Fall. The shop generally doesn't sell a ton of merchandise related to specific plays and is more focused on Shakespeare merchandise. They sold Shakespeare posters, books with Shakespearean insults, Shakespeare finger puppets and coffee mugs and t-shirts with your favorite Shakespeare play quotes. They also have an area that sells a ton of books and they have some DVDs and cd soundtracks of plays and musicals as well. I bought a Shakespeare coffee mug here but t-shirts and other merchandise for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horrors was only available at the Avon theatre gift shop which was open before and after the show. Stratford Festival Shop is only open until 5:30 pm each day except for Sunday's when they are open until 4 pm and they are closed on Mondays. Very fun shop! I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Located in the silos in the town of St. Jacob's, around the corner from the EcoCafe, Conestoga River Pottery has a lot to offer anyone walking through the door. Every shelf is filled with unique peices and collections for purchase. Its inspirational and quite lovely to bear witness to such beauty and creativity. I walked in and took my time in looking around. Found this gorgeous travel mug, a heart ornament and a small magnet made from another local artist of the landscape from BC. Where I had just visited months earlier. The young lady working was friendly. I called before going to ensure they would be open. She was talkative and upbeat. Definitely chipper compared to the other person there. Not too sure if the older gentleman was the potter/artist. He didnt seem very friendly, unfortunately. Perhaps my expectations are too high these days for people to offer a little bit more warmth. Especially with respect to this current, temporary pandemic. I understand everyone has their own ways of coping and we are all individually processing the changing times in whatever ways we can manage. When business owners are not personable, it makes me not want to be supportive. That's how I think as a patron and that's my bottom line. The mug I got is pretty awesome. It has a corked top. I encouraged some friends to visit, hopefully they'll follow through on that. And they'll have some good interactions with the shop owner.

The sign alone was an indicator of a massive change and then we came to learn that a few years back they built a whole new dedicated theatre. And it is pretty! A stunning architectural marvel, bright and airy, vaulted ceilings, stone walls makes this theatre both modern and poetic. A large concession stand selling all sorts of treats and drinks with cheerful and happy people working there was a nice addition. Plenty of trashcans and well placed restrooms made the trivial easy to manage. We had great seats with a commanding view of the stage but I suspect there isn't a bad seat! The setup is the same as before with a center stage and people seated 3/4 around it. There were no challenges hearing the actors or seeing them. It truly is a beautiful theatre!
