La Plaza is so educational and interesting. It mainly focuses on Chicanx and Los Angeles history. But they do have a historical area where they talk about how Mexican and indigenous people helped shape our country and California. Their revolving exhibitions are quality. I've gone to about 3 or 4 of these revolving exhibitions and they are always so informative. You can tell that it is put together by people passionate about the subject matter. The staff is always so nice. I have never had any bad experiences. I can talk about this all day but ultimately you should go. It is free and educational. All kinds of different people would come in here, and they took Korean classes and it was a community like no other place I have ever seen in Los Angeles. Then one day, it was ALL OVER. When Covid began in March 2020, which was over 6 years ago, it became online courses only. Now, their course availability is STILL mostly online-only, with the exception of 2 or 3 classes. It's a HUGE PITY that KCCLA doesn't welcome back its community of Korean-learners. We used to share meals with the teachers and the office workers and the classmates would chat and network before lessons while sharing a meal. The online courses that are offered by KCCLA are NOT good. I've tried them multiple semesters and they're just not good. Many of the people who take KCCLA's online courses don't even live locally. This used to be a local hub, and now it's online low-quality classes with students who live out of state or out of town. What did the students and community here do for you to be so determined to keep us out and away ?

They already have some great shows lined up for 2027. The place is big, with a few art centers. The main building is small enough that there is not a bad seat in the house. Parking is so easy and it is free. The staff are all volunteers and they are just great. Make sure you print out your tickets or have them held at will call. They have some nice snacks, but not overloaded. We have seen so many shows there, from the ballet to rock and tribute bands, that are great. We saw the Laurel Canyon Sound there and there were a few bands and they were amazing. You will love this place.

I remember taking ballet as kid and modern dance as a teen. I also took a workout class when I was in college. I always appreciated the large and spacious dance studios where the classes were held. Now that I'm older I've also come to appreciate Torrance Cultural Arts Center as a venue. I've been to several different festivals here such as the Japanese Matsuri Festival and Lunar New Year festival. This spot is perfect for the community to get together and like how each festival is able to have many different booths. I also love how there is a stage area both outside and inside. I've also attended the Torrance Firefighters' Annual Spaghetti Dinner here. This is another great event at this spacious venue. Despite it being quite a popular dinner, there''s plenty of room for all to enjoy an evening out. Torrance Cultural Arts Center is great! Whether it be for classes or community events or festivals, this spot is perfect for small or large gatherings.

Cons: they only allow photos outside and the lobby before entering!! I dislike that since you can't take photos of your family together inside at the dinner table. If they have no photos at least someone who can take photos from the establishment. Also, it's not really ADA accessible for convenient motives. You will have to walk all the way around for the ramp, which is an inconvenience! The waiting in line for valet is a lil Ridiculous too because everyone is waiting on that hill to get valet or drop someone off. Furthermore, I did feel rushed throughout the dinner process since they want you to be ON TIME for the show and check in roughly 20 minutes early. Pros: our server Travis was outstanding and attentive with great personality!!! My family is not that easy so he handled us very well with all our needs and pickiness!!! He made the experience very nice!! Also the hostess were nice and Aja kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. Food: OFFFF THE CHAINNN!!! I ordered the half roasted chicken and omg it was very juicy and tender !! So flavorful as well. 5/5 for the food good Caesar salad and cheese bread too! Magic show: Very good magicians here at magic castle!! The performance was splendid!!! Very wit and organized for sure one of the best magician show I've been too. Love the atmosphere here though it's 5 bars here and it's really nice!! Very historical and unique, though they can modernize it more. They say to dress up really nice, but I felt many weren't that dresses up so I would say come cute and classy! It's $30 for valet for dinner!! Brunch I heard is cheaper. I will come back next for brunch!! -Marshay D.

Review #919 2025-096…read more My son is taking Cantonese 2 at South Bay Chinese School & placed 1st on 10/11/25 Penmanship Competition, earning an entry to compete in the 11/16/25 Southern California Council of Chinese Schools 2025 Fall Academic Competition (南加州中文學校聯合會 2025 秋季學術比賽) in Beginner Level Penmanship (硬筆寫字 初級組) held at Arcadia High School. He also placed penmanship previously: 1st in 2023 - 2024 school year & 4th in 2024 - 2025 but I missed the emails to confirm for the regional competition. In his 1st regional competition, M place 6th (廖文凱 硬筆寫字 初級組 第六名)! \ (^ o ^) / The Southern California Council of Chinese Schools 2025 Fall Academic Competition Awards Ceremony (南加州中文學校聯合會 2025 秋季學術比賽頒獎典禮) was held on 11/30/25 at the Culture Center of Taipei Economic & Culture Office in Los Angeles. (洛杉磯華僑文教服務中心). It was quite a production... taking almost 2 hours! I'm so proud of my l'il one. I believe he was the only Cantonese student awardee in the ceremony (though I did see an awardee from the Chinese School of San Diego, not sure if the student was in the Mandarin or Cantonese program but it's a higher probability that the student is in their Mandarin program), even more proud that he's trying to continue to learn about his heritage & representing Cantonese since it's so difficult to find a Chinese school that teaches Cantonese. Due to the influx of 300+ people attending the ceremony, their private lot was jam packed but we arrived early enough to find free street parking. I also found out from our school that the Office was giving away books to attendees on a first come first serve basis; I picked up a Chinese chicken recipe book that provided the recipes in English & Chinese, & M grabbed a couple of Chinese comic books (we may need to use Google Translate's camera to try & "read" them). I'm not familiar with CCTECO, but there's a lot of art displayed in their lobby. There's also several conference rooms for meetings, & a large auditorium (where the awards ceremony was held). The Office is located on Telstar Ave. in a somewhat isolated part of El Monte. I was surprised to learn from their website of the original Culture Center in Los Angeles Chinatown (I born & raised in Chinatown & don't remember seeing this center), & the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) relocated the center to Santa Ana in 09/2005 to serve Orange County. I'm not likely to visit Culture Center of Taipei Economic & Culture Office in L.A. again unless my son continues to compete in Chinese school competitions.

There are some hand sanitizers available for visitors to use. This place is open and available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between visitors. I mention these things in my reviews for the sake of protecting immunocompromised people like the elderly and people sick with cancer and other illnesses. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This event currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was here several months ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They also do not allow pets in their event UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty massive. When you enter the grounds, turn left. There you will be directed to pay for parking ($15 for regular cars - general parking, $30 for VIP parking, $23 for RVs and limos, and $38 for buses) and where to park. As mentioned by my excellent buddy, Justin, parking for handicapped individuals freaking suck. Whoever organized this event sucks. Handicapped parking is in lot 3, which is hella far away from the event. You would think it would be much closer to the event, but noooooo. Some idiot organized it to be like this. Why?!?! Please make the entrance closer to the handicapped parking lot in the future. That would make a lot of sense. They take cash and credit cards. Event: The festival offers immersive 14 - 17 century Elizabethan-era entertainment, jousting tournaments, artisanal shopping, and medieval food like turkey legs. The event itself was very fun and entertaining. I had a great time with my close friend. I highly encourage anyone who attends to dress up. If you don't, you will stick out like a very sore and ugly thumb. If you do dress up, costume weapons must be sheathed and peace tied. Also, wear comfy shoes. There is soooooo much walking. It's also hella dusty at this event, which is lowkey on point with ye - old England. To add on, when Justin and I attended this event in mid May, the weather was soooo on point because it was gloomy and overcast. This is exactly how I imagined old timey England during the renaissance. You can absolutely bring food and drinks into the event, but they cannot be picnic food, food that requires heating or refrigeration, alcohol, anything in glass containers, and coolers. You can bring water, but it cannot be opened yet. Or you can bring an empty reusable water bottle for it to be filled up at the event. There are plenty of bathrooms (porta potties and hand washing stations) at this event. Note: While at the event, we didn't see any refillable water bottle stations. Where were they hiding? Food: My bestie and I got the tri tip sandwich and french fries. Honestly, coming into this event, I already knew that the food was gonna be mid. Lmao I had low expectations for the food because I wasn't really there for the food. Plus, I guess this was also kinda lowkey on point with the renaissance era in England because food in that time period was also mid. Lol I was primarily there for the medieval vibes and jousting, which delivered in spades. I would honestly go every year just for the medieval vibes and jousting. Screw the food there. Anyways, the tri tip sandwich was overly priced with a meager amount of meat in the sandwich in a sad ass hot dog bun. It was more of a sad- wich. This is why I removed one star. Flavor wise, it was okay. My friend knows that I'm not the biggest fan of anything BBQ, but I'll eat it anyways. The fries that we got were plentiful for the price point and it was very crunchy. I was disappointed when it wasn't really salted, which made it taste bland TBH. I should also note that the tri tip sandwich and fries were cold by the time we sat down and ate them because we spent like 10 - 15 minutes walking around and finding a place to eat. Don't be like us. Eat your food while it's hot. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. Still, cash is king at this event. Many vendors only take cash, so bring at least $100 per person.
