I've known Scott for 20 years and hoped that knowing him would mean above average customer service. The opposite was true. While I don't expect a discount because I went to college with someone, I do expect fair business dealings. But that did not happen. Poor communication, unfair billing practices. Beware. Lots of $$$$$ for little jobs. I cannot even judge the quality of the tree service fairly because I'm so mad about the pricing. Scott and his crew were amazing! Hard working, thorough, professional and finished a day earlier than anticipated. They did a killer job taking care of the trees while keeping our beautiful canopy of shade. The yard feels bigger and trees look healthy yet still robust. The crew left our yard cleaner than when they arrived. I got three quotes for this project and Gallatin Tree Service was noticeably more reasonable than Bozeman Tree Service and Arbor Medic. Based on Gallatin's philosophy on tree care, I was optimistic about working with them. After some initial discussions, they were going to work up a formal estimate for me, and then they just stopped responding to e-mails and phone calls. Several weeks on, I saw one of their tree removal trucks just a few blocks from my house today, so I guess it's just me. I believe in freedom of contract, but I think you should be direct about it rather than leaving a customer disappointed and wondering what's happening. read more

Good expertise in tree care/transferring trees. Poor response to any problems, especially after a few months have gone by. Very expensive ($1000+) trees are only warranted for one year. Owner Scott Mckoutz did not replace 1 tree within warranty, and another tree fell down after 1 week! Would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Give back to the community?? Hard to believe! I requested 2 cords of firewood August 1st 2016. Sent a reminder in September. Finally got a date for delivery mid-October. Then the owner wanted to move the delivery date. I told them at this point I was out of firewood and snow is predicted for tomorrow. The response I received was, Okay, they will deliver but "oh by the way the price just went up $20 per cord". I am a single mother and have to come up with an extra $40.00 the day of delivery. I had to cancel the order. Checked all firewood prices that I could find in Bozeman. Most companies were $35.00 cheaper per cord than this business. I was in tears, but the owner was more concerned about doing things with a higher profit margin apparently. I called BOZEMAN FIREWOOD COMPANY and left a message. They returned my call within 10 minutes. They are booked out on deliveries for a while, but upon hearing my predicament, the owner managed to get me enough firewood TODAY to last me until they could make a delivery so that my two children and I would have heat. Bozeman Firewood Company is the type of business that is willing to help out someone in the community. If you want to do business with Gallatin Tree Care, good luck, you're just a dollar sign. read more
