These things matter to us and we got them all in Ulises Alvarado of UBD Handyman Services, who listened carefully and assessed our needs before installing decorative shutters to our home's exterior. The shutters were heavier than usual and he arrived with scaffolding (not just a ladder) for the upper level, demonstrating that he understood the scope of work. These gents work well as a team. The job was done with precision, quickly and at a competitive price. Ulises' cheerful manner and willingness to offer advice, when we asked, was icing on the cake. I called 5 Painters,…read more2 didn't even show up and the other 2 I had to chase for a proposal which was 3x that of Mike's. Why did I hire mike? Because he LOVES to paint.. He says it is "therapeutic". Therapeutic ?!?!? I find when you hire people who love what they do, you are likely to have good results. So mike gets on site "ding" 8am with a text - "i am here in the dog run, just FYI, if your going to let the dogs out". Painting begins.. He doesn't ring the doorbell, call me open the phone. He knows I have dogs, kids.. The following day, mike calls me with bad news "Sean, I am checking the wood as I go along, and there's some rot, what do you want to do"? I ask him can he fix it, and he's like "yeah". So for a marginal (AND I MEAN marginal) price he goes around replacing all the TRIM that is rotted, and the cost is really nominal.. I am expecting thousands of dollars, and he's like its just a few places. He then calls me and tells me that there is more rot, and called a roofer friend on his own, and tells me the "ROOF was installed improperly, and because of that there's rot into the sub wall". He then refers me to not 1, but 3 reputable companies that can repair the rot. They actually come out?!!?!?! He then calls his roofer buddy to check my roof. We then learn that my brand new roof was not installed to code, and I was charged for items that were not actually installed. I am now in the process of getting that repaired through the roof vendor who was attempting to defraud me. I would have never known otherwise. He could have, and most likely others would have just painted over it! Mike takes picture of all the damage on his own time, because "that's not right"...So.. Mike continues to do this work, and its the best painting I have seen in my life. Repairs the wood with bondo in some places where the rot is not bad.. So I ask him "hey my pool stairs are broken, how much to fix/bondo that"? He's like "I got the bondo out, no problem man"... Doesn't charge me and is out there for an hour (1 hour of his time) Bondo/sanding my pool stair, which look AWESOME. Then there are the little things: Very tidy, ladders are stacked, cleans up, no mess. We also had painted the deck and the "brown" was not "brown". So we had him change the color, and he's like no problem. I ask him how much, and he says, just pay me for the materials, we have to do a second coat anyways.! Finally, Walking down my deck steps they feel more firm - WHY? Because he literally drove new screws to secure the wood. SERIOUSLY!!! If you need painting done, you should call him! Because we have a laundry list of items were gonna get done! To the other reviewee on here that gave him a negative review, I suggest you stop taking your hallucinogenic drugs!
