I'm giving…read moreone star because the owner, Chad, cost me a significant and entirely preventable 30% budget overrun -- and he did it after I gave him multiple chances to get it right. Here's what happened: Chad visited our home three times before we signed. On his second visit, I pointed out that the subfloors were in rough shape and asked directly whether I should repair them. He told me not to worry about it. The weekend before installation, I sent him a video of the floors and said I was thinking about going to Menard's to pick up 1/4" plywood to cover the entire main floor. He called me and told me not to do that -- said it would be a waste of time and money. Monday morning, his installers walked in, looked at the subfloor, and immediately said it was in awful shape. Their recommendation? Go to Menard's and get 1/4" plywood to cover the whole floor. Exactly what I had proposed. They charged $25 per sheet of plywood plus $40 per sheet to install it. When it came time to settle up, I wrote two checks -- one for the agreed amount plus half the overrun, and a second check for the other half, with a note to Chad that he should only cash it if he felt it was fair for me to absorb the full cost of a problem he had twice told me wasn't a problem. He cashed both. I don't know if Chad was inattentive, undertrained, or simply not honest with me. What I do know is that the owner of a flooring company should be able to assess a subfloor. I flagged the issue twice -- once in person, once on video -- and was turned away both times. If you're considering Third Coast, insist on a written subfloor assessment before you sign anything, and get any scope-of-work promises in writing.

We looked at a few of Carpet One's remnants, thanked our salesperson, Tracy Rokosz, and began to walk out. Tracy casually mentioned that she might have something that would fit our needs. She showed us a sample of beautiful large carpet remnant that was being stored downstairs. It was perfect, a great color,and the price was amazing! Now, we're using the remnant for two bedrooms. My wife was happy, and I was ecstatic. Without Tracey's guidance we might have spent quadruple online for a substandard rug. She is the best, and Hopkins Carpet One is a great flooring store.

Josh was our salesperson, and was tireless, knowledgeable, and patient in working out different options and educating us about the pros and cons. We did some comparison shopping. BCO's good pricing, their responsiveness and promptness, and them doing their own work (not subcontracting) were compelling, so we went with them. After we ordered the work, BCO was able to put the job on schedule within days. The BCO installers accidentally installed the vinyl plank in the wrong area. This error also led to some other issues. When BCO realized this, it immediately acknowledged its error and responsibility, and worked to correct as soon as it could. The BCO installers were back the next day to start addressing the issues, and Eric and another employee even visited the job after their workdays, just to evaluate and determine solutions. Matt (general manager) got involved at the end to make sure that we were satisfied with the resolution. (We were!) However careful a company is, some type of error will happen sometime to that company - that's a fact of life. How the company - and the people at the company - respond sets the great ones apart. And Bloomington Carpet One, through its actions and the actions of its employees, clearly distinguishes itself as a great company!

Terrible service and no communication! It took 2 1/2 months to get carpet installed…read more We chose floor center due to the fact that they had the carpet in stock that we wanted. When we purchased our home we had to get the carpet replaced before we could move in to the upper level, we were told that since the carpet was in stock that they could install the same week. So we paid for the carpet and waited. And waited. And waited. For nearly 3 weeks we slept on couches in our living room. We paid for removal of the carpet but they left the staples in the floor and carpet around the radiators. When asked if that was standard procedure they said that sometimes if there are too many staples they leave them in but stated "you will barely even feel them through the carpet pad" For six thousand dollars i would expect no not feel any staples. The list goes on and on the issues we had. Their competition up the street said that absolutely the removal should have included pull the staples. Once they received our money there was no communication. Numerous times I asked for a follow up call which never happened. Between my wife and I, we ended up having to take 7 days off of work to get carpet installed. On multiple occasions the installers showed up without any knowledge of where the carpet was being installed (upstairs) so were unable to install due to the fact that they could not get the carpet up the stairs by themselves. Spend your money elsewhere, this place is a joke. If you value your time (and vacation hours) stay clear of the Floor Center.

Our original 16 year old Duffy's hardwood floor had some major warping issues due to a water leak…read moreIn the kitchen . Duffy's spent several days drying the subfloor. They pulled up a number of bad boards, replaced them, then sanded and restained the whole floor. Looked great! Then the warping reappeared. It was not dried properly before the re-install or maybe the boards were not installed properly. Duffy's said they could redo the bad parts but the coloring of the new work might be very noticeably different. We had to choose between the warping or mismatching floor boards. We opted to not do anything for fear of making it worse. Very disappointing.

After meeting and receiving quotes from several contractors, Carl came by our house to do the evaluation. He showed up exactly when he said he would and even brought by pictures of previous work and color samples to review without us asking specifically for them. He impressed me with his knowledge and passion for each type of wood, as our house is a little patchwork with the species, and took the time to explain each in detail. He walked the entire house with us, thoroughly inspecting each room, closet, nook and corner. We had a ton of questions about the color, areas of high traffic, and damage repair to several rooms. He met each question head-on and provided us with confidence in his experience and craftsmanship. We also had a very worn main staircase which he was very enthusiastic about tackling. We agreed on expectations, timing, and a quote was signed before he left the property. Carl had a job reschedule which allowed him to start almost immediately after his visit for quote. He estimated that work would start on Monday morning and would be wrapped by by Friday evening. Not only did he start on Monday morning as expected, but he made time in his schedule to come by one night which allowed the timeline to shrink by one day. He was wrapped up and out of the house by Thursday afternoon. As expected, Carl (and Dave) did an excellent job restoring the floors and staircase in our 80yr old home. They worked so clean that we had to search the walls and trim for any sign of dust. Their attention to detail and ability to repair damage is very impressive. We tried to find a sign of repair in two very badly damaged section and were unable to find any trace! All of the floors, regardless of species, came out even in color, texture, and finish. He recommended an only-based satin finish which looks like a million bucks! The staircase, which is a center focal point of the home, looks absolutely amazing as well. I think the pictures speak for themselves but we are extremely happy to have worked with Carl on this project and I recommend you invite him to review and quote out your next project.
