The studio is located behind Publix right by a quiet residential area. The parking lot is pretty small, so you might have to plan accordingly. I always got there early and didn't have to worry about figuring out street parking or something. The main lobby area has shag carpeting, and it bothers me in a cleanliness sort of way. Between workshops we walked through this area barefoot after we walked through it with shoes earlier. I don't know if I'm being irrational or if this is actually kind of weird to anyone else. The large dance studio space has one long wall of mirror and a black rubberized floor. My body is thankful for this, but it definitely caused some chuckling when turning and having a full room of feet make noise. The sound system was decent too. In the spring, we opened the windows for air circulation instead of air conditioning but had to shut them shortly after because of too much pollen. Like many parts of Gainesville, there are a lot of trees nearby and it's not always the best idea to opt for fresh air. I know I sweated my ass off both times I was there, so I'm not sure if that's not enough air or just me. Probably just me. All in all I really like coming to this studio. I really dig how large it is so you never feel too crammed.

Danscompany of Gainesville is more than just a dance studio. Our family has been involved with Danscompany for over 12 years and even though my children are grown, we all continue to be actively involved in Danscompany! My children learned so many priceless life skills from the teachers and the mission of this non profit organization. I went to classes here on and off for a several months. (Only reason why I don't go more regularly…read moreis schedule conflicts as the intermediate classes are only one time a week). First I went to the four week beginners' class and it is quite a big, popular class. You don't need to go with a partner although many people do, since you switch partners with almost every song. In the beginners' class, we were taught about 8 different dances. In the intermediate I classes, there is focus on a different dance each week. Always beginning with the basic steps, a demonstration and then practice with different partners adding more and more steps. The teachers are very good, patient and fun. You can pay a monthly fee which includes the practice time on Tuesdays or pay per lesson. Price information and which dances are being taught are on their website. The Tuesday practices are good to practice with people of all different levels and practice what you learnt during those lessons. I like the atmosphere of the school with the professional, fun teachers and the students are all kinds of people of all different ages.

In preparation for the year, I visited Grace's website and pulled down the first class start date and loaded them into my calendar. On day one, I arrive with my 4 year old and 18 month old and the door is locked. After being let in by a construction worker, I walk up to the desk and I'm met with the look of "what are you doing here?" I say "I'm here for the 2:45 class, it starts today." In a condescending tone "Are you not getting our emails?" Me, with a baby on my hip and a 4 year bouncing around ready to start dance, "I get a lot of emails." The lady's reply "well you need to read them! Classes don't start until next week." We leave. I log into the website and I'm not crazy, it says my daughter has class that day. I check my emails. I missed the one that says classes start August 12. That's on me. I reply to the email asking that they update their online portal to reflect the correct dates. I mention that the customer service I had just received was unkind and unnecessary. I receive a reply from the same lady at the desk saying she's sorry I felt I was treated poorly, email is their method of communication, and their website cannot be changed. I'm in a group chat with 10 successful, working moms. After discussing what happened with them, two other moms mentioned it happened to them too. One even shortened a vacation to be back for the wrong first day because the website is inaccurate. 30% of our group chat. Out of all of their customers, I'm certain we aren't the only 3. In one of the many emails I have received from Grace Conservatory they list their values: Kindness, Community, Humility, and Excellence.    Given I was not treated with kindness and humility, I don't expect my child will be treated with those values attending class there either. We pulled our daughter and enrolled her in another near by dance studio. The communication and interactions have been night and day difference. Being in the Nocatee Town Center should not give you a license to treat paying customers poorly. Websites can be fixed. Communication can be better. Separately, and more importantly, kindness is free. You simply do not have to be rude to anyone that walks through your door.
