We selected him and his team for our wedding in Tuscany in April 2018 and it couldn't have been more perfect. The process was amazing - Alessio gave us an incredible choice of food on the menus, and all were extremely gourmet options - not the standard mass-dinner selections you usually get for weddings. He let us mix and match to our taste. On the day, he and his team were excellent - they supplied not only amazing food and service, but also everything else you needed - chairs, tables, glassware, bar, apertivo - the whole thing from start to finish. His traditional cake show, where he made the wedding cake by hand in front of the guests was truly a wow moment, very memorable and great for pictures and to get the energy up after a dinner. The restaurant is cozy and intimate, very Tuscan, very country. Nothing fancy but not too rustic either. I suppose the locals know of this place and they must make up the core of Il Convio's clientele. The service was a bit slow as there was only one person serving, taking orders and writing up the bill but it didn't bother us as we understand that on a quiet weekday, they can't have a full staff available. This is the go-to place for an authentic, homecooked Tuscan meal far off the beaten path. Although we went on a chilly cloudy autumn day, I can imagine that this place becomes amazing in the warmer months. They have vast green areas outdoors, a lovely garden with tables and lounge chairs. I'm thinking that many probably come here also to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other events. It's the ideal setting. This restaurant stood out as one of the finest dining experiences of my 11 days in Italy. The owner and chef is named Emilio - and though he speaks very little English - his communication through the language of delectable foods is superb. Our guide translated as he prepared a grape cake for us to enjoy later - then he created a wonderful zucchini flower risotto for our group. It was a joy to watch him work and his staff was phenomenal. We enjoyed wine, a mixed grill, pasta, and dessert over the course of three hours and I would love to return to this charming restaurant if I'm ever in the Florence area again. Wonderful!
