Chungs Taekwondo Studio - Grand Master Dae Woong Chung at Black Belt class

New studio. Same traditional teachings. Family-friendly, good for kids, and great for beginners and…read moreproficient martial artists, alike. Out of the way though this studio may be for most people, it's bringing forth some old school Korean martial arts styles that most studios nowadays just don't have, as they've become more commercial and accommodating to people who want to call themselves a martial artist without actually doing the work. First and foremost, martial arts is about self-discipline, hard work, & determination to better oneself through constant daily practice & self-meditation. The Chang Moo Kwan style of Taekwondo, which is the particular style taught here, is not the fancy Kung Fu style one watches in movies, or the super hard & rigid Karate style you would see at a tournament, but rather something in between. It uses fluid movements, and hard finishing moves to capitalize on a person's grace and power in order to bring one of the most effective, common-sensical, & easily-applied techniques that one would expect to use in a real life situation. The philosophy of our Grandmaster and all of his students focuses on keeping "the well" pure- the well being we as the martial artists- so that the "water," or our technique & overall style, stays pure, as well. Martial arts of any style were never meant to be easy. But, practiced on a regular basis, and applied on a mental, physical, and at times, even spiritual level in one's day-to-day life, you are able to see & feel the satisfactory growth it brings you. So whatever style you choose, make sure you keep at it. Diligent practice makes for the greatest of Masters.

Mighty impressed with Pomona Tae Kwon Do. Master Wilson is running a great studio here. We started…read moreour son (age 7) here during summer to give him something fun and more physically challenging to do while school was out. The lessons Master Wilson teaches go beyond just the physical aspect. He teaches the boys and girls to be tough mentally, confident, centered, controlled, and respectful. There's a really good balance between taking it little by little in the form of baby steps, to keeping Tae Kwon Do serious business, having some fun, and of course pushing your child to take it to the next level. Its interesting to see all the students having varying strengths and weaknesses but watching them overcome their fears or weakness is great to see. You'll find yourself rooting for your child as well as the whole class. My kid looks forward to the trainings and I look forward to watching him grow.

My three kids had been doing taekwondo here, from when this business started in West Covina…read more(Seafood City plaza), moved to Tokyo Central plaza, then to this location next to Dominos. I did not have any comparison for other tkd center. As I was happy being here before, years after years this place is declining rapidly. From so many great instructors, down to one instructor, Rolando Lopez who are very unprofessional and lacking customer service. So many times I went there to renew or pay monthly membership (especially with so many people being scammed here), and Lopez also replied did not know when the owner, Han, would be there. At the same time, noone worked in the front desk to help parents. Rolando and Han often unprofessionally made comments "I love you, " "I hate you" to the kids. Or pretending going to hit their heads even though it was joking. If I didnt do that to my kids at home, why would I pay for them to go somewhere to be treated like that. Should had reported to the taekwondo safeguarding agency. And when I talked to the "owner" Han, he talked negatively about other tkd centers and even his previous coaches. He kept saying they all stole money from him. If they were, how could it be a repeated offence? Not to make ugly comments, I couldnt renew my kids memberships because Han never there and Lopez too head big, power hungry acted running the place but "Audrey didnt teach me how to do the venmo payments so if it didnt show up in our system your fine" comments, and verbally assaulting my children verbally stating they all going back to white belts, despite of their years of dedication. When it summer, they let the kids almost having heat stroke due to extreme heat and they were too cheap to fix their ac system. Maybe the fund got stolen again. My son black belt test cost $800 and Han did not even provide the official black belt license from Korea, the international certification. He took and scammed every pennies he could. I was able to reach out to the international korean agency and they sent my son the official black belt license/ certification but had to pay out of pocket even though Han already charged that money to me. And why Rolando Lopez as the staff there leaving 5 star reviews for this business? That was nepotism right there and just an input, when you wanted to leave a review, double correct your grammar using microsoft words or grammarly. His feedback was unrelated, poorly presented and lack of content.

This used to be a great place to enroll kids for martial arts, but ever since the new management…read moretook over, the quality and safety have gone downhill. There's very little oversight during classes, and it honestly feels like safety is no longer a priority. I've personally seen several kids get hurt, and what concerns me most is that the instructors don't seem to step in until after something happens. During sparring sessions, the kids are basically left to figure things out on their own with almost no guidance or supervision. For a program that's supposed to teach discipline and proper technique, it's disappointing to see how unstructured things have become. I really hoped things would improve, but after watching this happen repeatedly, I no longer feel comfortable recommending this place to any parent. Kids deserve a safe environment to learn, and unfortunately, this is no longer one of them.
