We had dinner here tonight with our two teenagers. Both the food and the service were excellent. Highly recommend.

So we had a day to just drive around Tuscany and we found ourselves in Greve in Chianti looking for…read moresome lunch. After looking at reviews we settled on La Cantina and we were not let down. It's a very nice place offering both indoor and shaded, outdoor seating overlooking a nearby square. We asked to be seated outside, ordered some Aperol spritzes and began to check out the menu. Our server was friendly and efficient. She took our drink orders and dropped off a breadstick-like appetizer of baked, thin, crispy, yummy pizza or pasta dough scraps and we started to check out the menu. We could not narrow down our appetizer selection so we ordered three. A delicious assortment of goodies soon hit the table. We had some parma and melon, bruschetta, and fried pasta cuddles with stracchino cheese and raw ham. That last one I had never had before and boy was it good! In fact, they were all excellent. For mains we had pizza, paccheri with bacon and ricotta, and potato gnocchi with fresh tomato and basil. They were all very delicious. The paccheri with bacon and ricotta was another new dish for me. It was sort of like Pasta alla Gricia except with ricotta instead of pecorino. It was different, not better or worse, just different. And yes, I would order it again. The owner stopped by the table to say hi and check in to make sure things were going well. That's always a nice touch. All in all, an excellent experience and one I would recommend.

While visiting wineries in Tuscany we made plans to stop in here for lunch. We chose La Contina…read moredue to all the great reviews we read and it surely did not disappoint! We got there right about the start of lunchtime for the day and we were seated quickly, but it soon got very busy. Their menu is loaded with many pasta, pizzas, and other amazing Italian food. They also offer a nice sampling deal for couples, described in the menu. We were served their table bread and glasses of wine when we were greeted soon after sitting down. The bread is this amazing cracker-like bread which is covered in EVOO and herbs and then baked off in their amazing pizza oven. This stuff tasted great! And the free wine was a very nice, impressive treat too! We tried a couple things, including their meat and cheese board called the "Cellar Platter" and one of their pizzas, called the John. The food was all spectacular! The fried bread that came with the Cellar Platter was crazy-good! Everything was amazing... Would highly recommend stopping in!!

The best pizza in Tuscany…read more I came here on a summer night and it felt like a foreign film; Italian families dining amongst the rolling hills of Tuscany, toasting one another with wine and generally enjoying life in a way that's somehow so effortless in Italy when the weather is warm. My Florentine companions tried to keep the constituent ingredients of the lardo pizza from me, thinking that I might be turned off by cured strips of fatback. (Boy, were they wrong!) When I squeezed the secret out of them I was even more excited to eat this pizza (which you should not miss). One of the most magical nights I've spent in Italy was dinner at Palazzo Pretorio. Absolutely worth the short trip from the center of Florence!

This charming restaurant tucked into a side alley of one of Chianti's most picturesque villages,…read moreSan Donato in Poggio, has a wonderful terrace overlooking a gorgeous view of the Tuscan hills. The menu is by and large neopolitan, which is fine by me because I happen to love the food of the South and it's a welcome change from the local fare. This is the best - I repeat: The Best Pizza in the entire area, bar none. If pizza is your thing, this is your place when you are in Chianti! My only criticism here is the service. While Giovanni, the pizziaiuolo, is an artist and all 'round great guy, the waitresses are slow and about as disineterested as can be. Try and get one of them to even pretend she cares! If the owners could clamp down on them, they'd have a perfect spot here (and 5 stars from me!)

You MUST eat here! Our only sorrow is we found it late in our stay and only ate there two nights…read more Don't worry about parking, you can double stack in the three places next to it. They will move the cars for you. OK the food: Most is sourced locally, the beef is dry aged 30 days, and is so tender. The filet is not mignon, but a sirloin filet and super flavorful. The sausages with white beans is outstanding. The house wine is local, and really all you need is, although they have a great selection. They will explain every item on the menu In detail if you wish. The Caprese salad has specially sourced Buffalo mozzarella, ask the waiter about it. Very very good! Again, it will be your loss if you don't go here at least once.

The service was crisp, interesting, and engaging. Our first experience was two take-away pizzas for $20. They were delicious, so we went back for a sit down. We elected to eat in the cozy upstairs dining room, but we offered outside seating. The large screen TV was playing a concert from the national orchestra. Our guy was very interested in the concert and explained some of the components. It was very interesting. The two mains were delicious! We had a half liter of house white and a half liter of rosso. Both were locally sourced and spot on. $52 got us out the door! The prices in all of Tuscany for food is so much lower than the states. Expect to pay half in a restaurant and 1/3 less in grocery stores.
