Old-world charm, grand staircase, classic architecture, and the kind of place that actually feels like it has a story. The hotel is old, allegedly haunted, and completely unique. I loved most of our stay. The good? Probably the best hotel in Alexandria. Our view of the river was great, the service was friendly, and there is something cool about staying in a place that feels nothing like a generic chain hotel. You can grab food in the Bentley Room or drinks in the Mirror Room without ever leaving the building. The not so good? The walls are THIN. Our neighbors, or possibly a ghost, seemed to be up all day and night yelling about something. I resisted the urge to beat on the wall or knock on their door, but seriously, if you are staying in a hotel, have some concern for the people around you, you selfish prick. I want to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday, not listen to whatever nonsense you have going on next door. The hallways are also ridiculously long and have been described as very The Shining-like. Accurate. But who cares? Get your steps in. I did not see any ghosts, twins, elevators full of blood, or anything else concerning. The rooms definitely show the age of the building in a few ways. The bathroom was small, and the anti-theft hangers make steaming a suit way more difficult than it needs to be. There is also no valet parking, so you are parking on the street or using the self-park lot in the back. None of that would stop me from staying here again. The Bentley has character, history, a beautiful lobby, good food and drinks downstairs, and a feel you are not going to get anywhere else in Alexandria. Just bring earplugs. And if you hear yelling at 2 a.m., maybe it is the neighbors. Maybe it is the ghost. Either way, I am trying to sleep.

This is the third establishment we have tried in the Cenla area and you know the saying "third time is the charm"? Well charming is definitely the best way to describe these little cottages! There was only the Carriage house available for our stay so we chose the Sweetheart room over the Magnolia room, mainly because the jacuzzi tub looked bigger. The rooms are very clean. You would think one lady and her son/grandson wouldn't be able to keep rooms so clean, but she does it. Also, the room is stocked with just about anything food-wise that you could want for breakfast - juices, milk, cereal, grits, oatmeal, coffee, and each day there is pastry set out for the next morning. A couple of mornings it was danishes, but on our last day it was some great blueberry scones. And if something I have listed isn't there? Call them and if they have any in-stock they will bring it to you. Behind the cottages is a cypress-lined bayou where you will see ducks, turtles, and even the occasional nutria. In fact, it looks like some nutria might have a little enclave under one of the large cypress trees along the bayou. The neighboring property has goats on it and my husband liked feeding them leaves from the pecan trees nearby. Now, if you want a traditional bed and breakfast experience? Then DO NOT book through the website bedandbreakfast.com. If you book through this website you will get a cheaper price, but you will only get the stock of breakfast items listed above. If you want the big breakfast, then call the number on her website and book directly through her. It will cost a bit more, but you will get a large country breakfast. The only caveat is that this large breakfast isn't served until 9 a.m., so if you are an early riser (like me) you might rather going out to eat or just having what is in the room.

Air conditioner can't keep up in the summer, so it's hot inside all the time. Using bubbles in the bathtub incurs an additional $200 dollar cleaning fee. There is no bathroom door, so you shower and use the toilet in what is basically the bedroom/kitchen. The tv is a 15" set that is barely visible from any seating area. The ceiling fan (which is a God-send) wobbles horribly and looks as if it's about to come crashing down on the bed at any moment. There's no detergent to do laundry in the advertised washer/dryer. Forget about cooking your own meals. It's clean and quiet. The views are really great, but you can stay in a much more comfortable room for half the price and spend the rest on a massage or spa day!

Water spigots scattered between sites and one in particular, very temperamental that can't be shut off. Good thing that we are self-contained in a trailer so even with these deficiencies, still enjoy the park. Couple short trails from campsites leading to the Stuart Lake for swimming and picnic in day use area. While day use is dog friendly, the beach area is not. For a mere $5/night, we thought this was a bargain. The campground is 11 miles to Choctaw Casino, 55 miles from Longleaf Vista, and that's pretty much it for sight-seeing.

Did get a little networking in and found a class 3 dealer closer to my town, instead of driving 3 hours (one way). It was one of the better shows I've seen lately.
