If you happen to visit Guanajato, taking this funicular should be a must do activity! The views are incredible up on top once you reach Pipila Monument! Great way to admire the architecture of the city and enjoy the colors of the houses below! One of a kind experience, it doesn't take long to get up there and the price is reasonable. Spend as much as you'd like to look around and admire the vista. Bring a good camera with a zoom lens. Fun activity that get you to see Guanajato from various angles! Nice photo ops while you reach the top and a small historic museum, great to check out! Breathtaking views! And a fun adventure! read more

Although it doesn't rise to the highest parts of town, Guanajuato's funicular is worth the ride for the efficiency of the experience and the views en route. From below, you'll see the steep stairs beside the funicular. These are not available to climb. Rather, get yourself a one-way ticket and navigate the appropriate stairs/path to get back to the town's main street. It's impossible to get truly lost on the way down and once you get down you'll know how to get back up without the funicular if you later choose to do so (the walk up takes about 15 minutes). At the top of the Funicular are a series of shops and then, a bit further up, the al Pipila Monument. I did no research but was told by someone knowledgeable that al Pipila is Mexico's Paul Revere. More great photos can be snapped from the place right below al Pipila. Cheap and fun and easy to navigate, if you're in Guanajuato you should definitely try the funicular at least once. read more

There are to reasons you should take the funicular to the hill top overlooking the city- 1) if you're tired and can't walk anymore or 2) you've never ridden one before. I took my five-year-old daughter on it and she loved the experience. They come every three minutes and around 10 people fit inside. It only takes 2-3 minutes to go up. However, if you want to save money and want to see colorful houses with more city views, take the 15 minutes to walk up and down. read more

A must when in GTO. Round trip tix are $60 pesos. Although next time I will get one way n walk down, looks like there is a nice shady path. Can't beat the view from the Pipila. Get to see the entire city fr up top. read more

one fun option to get from the guanajuato valley up to the base of pipila! if not, you're counting on local buses, your own transportation, or by foot (epp, no thanks)! the funicular operates with a pulley system, so it means that one car goes up while the other comes down, so it IS quite slow. each car will fit approx 10 passengers + an attendant. costs 30 pesos one way, 60 round-trip. we were here during the cervantino, though the line was long but it was manageable. make sure to purchase your tickets at the window in advance before jumping into the queue! i like that the cars had an open window to take awesome aerial vids / photos of guanajuato. highly recommend :) read more

So if you're near the Jardin de la Union, a short walk around the corner next to the Teatro leads to the entrance to the Funicular - a tram that goes up the side of the mountain, taking you to the monument of Pipila AND to an AMAZING view of Guanjuato City. The Funicular is an inexpensive way to get to the amazing overlook, without having to walk up the hill - for 50 pesos each way (equivalent of around US $2.50) .You have the option to buy a one-way or return tickets. Seeing the beauty of the city unfolding as the Funicular begins to ascend is magical! At the top you are greeted with a gorgeous view of the colorful buildings of Guanjuato City, and for about 10 pesos you can enter the monument to see a view of the city from the top of the statue. To note: it is not necessary to do this since you get a very amazing view from outside. BUT, if you do decide to go to the top of the Pilipa monument, you do so by climbing SEVERAL flights of VERY NARROW staircases, with the last flight being more of a "ladder" type. But I digress. The funicular itself, runs very regularly - every 10 minutes or so - so not too long until the next one comes. There are shops and a museum in the station at the top to keep yourself occupied while waiting for the next car. The staff was very friendly. read more

Easy, quick hike from Jardin de la Union up to the monument a Pipila.The statue has historic significance- an independence hero, but the must-see is the spectacular view! Guanajuato is marvelous from up there. If you don't feel like walking up, there is a funicular "train" that you can take for 50 pesos. To get to the station for this, walk a bit down the street on the side of Teatro Juarez, past the jewelry vendors. There will also be lots of vendors at the top if you are looking for cheap souvenirs. read more
