We both love to fish and this was by far the BEST fishing excursion/trip we have ever taken. We had an amazing day of fishing on the lake, getting 103 largemouth bass to the boat an we probably missed/lost another 50. All fish were great quality as well. Our guide and the owners of Moody Ranch are just outstanding people and very accommodating. This will be a trip with my son that I'll never forget and a birthday that he won't soon forget either! One of the trails we took was the overlook trail where there is a raised platform where you can see one of the lakes and at that time there were tons of birds on the water. This trail had more of a canopy than you'd expect and some cool trees with Spanish moss hanging on them. We'd come back.

And the convenience of the chapel and reception hall being so close to each other made it easy for our guests to move from one building to the other. An incredible piece of history turned into a beautiful venue for all your special occasions, yes indeed! Olde Dobbin Station, is just that, old structures dating back to the 1900s, I'm assuming restored to their once living breathing look and feel, but still leaving a bit of rustic heritage behind. I'm a sucker for history, and this place had my heart won over almost instantly. The ceremony was located in what looked like an old storage building, completely brick and mortar and fully open to allow natural light to illuminate its stone insides (with that in mind note it may be cold so you may be looking to give up your sunlight seats to the highest bidder, or hope for a short but sweet ceremony). Situated in the middle of the outside ceremony edifice and the actual reception/banquet hall sits a very quaint vintage Bridal Cottage (sadly I did not get to admire the inside). The Banquet/reception building where I spent most of my duration of the wedding shenanigans is equally beautiful. A large solid wooden door (mind you this sucker is heavy takes a bit of oomph to move) gives way to a large, spacious building lit up by vintage inspired yet modern day chandeliers. Again the restoration of these buildings still leaves behind the look and feel of the history and times past, absolutely beautiful. Another set of wooden doors located towards the far end of the building leads out to a bonfire and a view of open field and woods. If you happen to stroll along the cement paths that surround the venue you will come across what looks like a small pond/man-made lake situated at the end of the path. Overall a beautiful Venue to celebrate one of life's special occasions.

There was a couple having wedding photos, and there was an elderly man taking pictures, and I just really liked how serene it was. Even the surrounding areas are just open fields and it's very beautiful. I'm happy this place is not too long of a drive from Houston to escape the city.

One of the attractions were a petting zoo and pony ride provided by EJC Farms. The young employee taking tickets was very polite. The animals were precious. Then my daughter pointed down to a baby goat. It's leg was so contorted that I became nausested. The tiny goat wasn't a buckling or small doe. This was a baby "Kid" no more than 7-8 weeks old. It was still trying to nurse on another lactating doe. At first, I thought maybe the crooked leg were a birth deformity but the tiny goat showed obvious signs of pain and suffering such as; Whimpering, limping, falling at the slightest bump from a child or animal passing by, unable to maintain balance, trouble standing up after falling. I had to put my 1 1/2 year old toddler down so i could redirect the goat and keep other animals and people from stepping on the injured animal. After a closer look at the animals leg and it was painfully clear that this animal needed medical attention ASAP. I knew the festival still had 2 hours before closing so I asked the man at the gate if he knew the goat was injured. He said "the little black & white one? Yes ma'am, we know. One of the larger animals steeped in it while they were traveling in the trailer today." A lady standing nearby heard the conversation and pointed out who she thought was in charge of the animals. This is how that went: ME: Hello there. I wanted to let you know that one of your small goats is injured. EDWARD LEE ROBINSON: Yes, I know. One of the animals stepped on it while they were in the trailer today. It ain't broke. ME: (my smile immediately disappeared) Ok..... maybe it's not a severe break, but it could be something that needs medical attention and requires rest. EDWARD LEE ROBINSON: It ain't broke. ME: Yes, you already said that. The animal is injured, sir. Did a vet look at the goat and verify that it's not broken. EDWARD LEE ROBINSON: ...No. It ain't broke. () ME: (voice shaking so bad i sounded like a goat myself) That's so cruel. ....You are so cruel. I hoped for him to elaborate on his weak ass rebuttal but got nothing more. His vague replies and uninterested facial expression was a sign that i was wasting time trying to reason with a person who wouldn't show mercy to a baby animal in severe pain. From what I saw, there was only one transport trailer to transport ALL of the animals. I'm guessing at least 24 animals combined, ranging from the smallest/youngest goat weighing about 12lbs compared to a calf and Shetland ponies weighing between 500-550 lbs. This injured goat was about the size of my Boston terrier. Why in the bloody hell would a 12 lb goat be next to a 500 lb pony while traveling from magnolia to spring? I hate giving someone a bad review, but if you would have seen the baby animal suffering and no one doing anything to help them, you would do the same.
