Love this business, we stop every time we come to DC. It is a great place to get stocking stuffers and special gifts.

Skal - So much cute stuff!

I love a shop that brings me closer to home. Skal is one of the largest and most well-stocked…read moreScandinavian gift shops I have encountered during my travels. Their selection is so vast, I could wander for hours and admire the wares. I had to pick up some Swedish Candy, of course, although the chocolates had to stay on the shelf due to the 100-degree heat outside. But Salty licorice and Bubs skulls came home with me. Delicious. I was most excited to find that they carry clothing. I bought a couple of dresses by Paapii, a Finnish brand. They make comfy dresses and tunics in all kinds of cute patterns. Everyone at the store was so friendly and willing to help out. The dressing room was occupied for a while, so they offered to let me try on my outfits in the ladies room instead. My haul ended up being quite pricey, but that is not Skal's fault. Their prices are rather reasonable in my opinion, I just...bought a lot of stuff. Be warned, you might too!

My friend is from Sweden, and she was over the moon about the authentic candy and really excited to see some of the clothing brands they had. I, on the other hand, got totally distracted by all the adorable gifts and knick-knacks. Every display was so thoughtfully arranged. Seriously, it felt like walking into a Pinterest board. The clerks were kind and helpful, and it had that warm, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger. The prices were very reasonable, considering we were in such a touristy area. I picked out a Christmas ornament as a souvenir, and I know I'll smile every time I hang it on the tree. Such a sweet little stop. Everyone should check them out if they are in Door County, WI!

Then the very over worked server who had at least three regular tables picked up a large table of 9 or ten in a group. Of course after he took our order we never saw him until we had to ask for our bill to be brought as we waited over 10 minutes for him to bring it. We never got refills on our coffee, we were never asked if everything was okay and how was the food and did we need anything else. So I receive cold American fries, and a barely poached egg which was cold but nicely served on a very burnt muffin. From start to finish we had an absolutely miserable time and the food was disgustingly awful. My brother brought me here as it was my 80th birthday. I had to apologize to him for suggesting this place. It has just gone to hell and there is no other way to put it. Even the cashier never asked how was the meal, our experience or anything just pay. Oh and on a health note. You should instruct your staff NOT to put their fingers on the INSIDE of the glasses when bringing them to the tables. I'm so sorry that I asked to come here today of all days and sad that this place has just fallen so far from what it used to be.

I actually went to purchase an ornament from a very small collection at a different store and the cashier quietly suggested that I needed to go to Tannenbaum's as they had the most amazing selection. She was not wrong. Not only can you deck out any type of Christmas tree you wish to have, they had a whole section that was very specific to door County and specific locations that they hand paint in the store. Of course, the one we selected had to be representative of sister Bay, Al Johnson's, and the goats as these are some of our most favorite memories from this trip. The gentleman working in the store was super friendly and helpful. Definitely put this one on your list so you can pick up a unique souvenir. They've also done incredible Work with the front entrance floral being so very welcoming. It says they are open 10 to 5 every day of the week. We were here on a Sunday.

I picked up a very nice glass ornament and was holding onto it. She aggressively suggested I put it in a basket. I took the suggestion and while I was walking around it was rolling in the basket. I didn't like that and didn't want the ornament to chip so I set the basket back and held the ornament again. Within a minute she was right where we were and rudely told me she was going to take the ornament from me since I wasn't using the basket. I explained that I felt it was safer in my hand than the basket and she insisted that it was better in the basket. Very unprofessional and rude. We stopped shopping immediately, paid for our ornament, and left. I did not appreciate being talked to or treated like a toddler.
