Always helpful, always well-staffed, always clean. Having a large family, we are there pretty often for movies, books, and the special programs. Of course, there is a large selection of books, but it's the other stuff that my family loves. Its downtown location also provides convenient internet access for a large amount of the population, I think that's an excellent service to the community!

The children's section is awesome for my toddler, and me, who is able to relax on one of the comfy chairs. I can sit back and chillax, knowing he is safe. There are also so many programs offered for children and adults. All seem to be free of charge, I might add. Can't get better than that. In addition to the wide selection of books on the grounds, they offer ebooks, audio books, and e-magazines accessible on my home computer. I will always make sure before I spend money on an ebook, that I can't simply download it free. If I had to complain about one thing, it would be that the computers are too easy to get to. I come to the library hoping to get my son to love books. I find myself having to fight to keep him from wanting on the computer. Overall, I love this place, and am very grateful that the community of Cape Girardeau has this resource.

You can't move the table closer to the plug because moving the tables is against the rules. They have the worst set up of any library. If you're needing a place to plug up your lap top or looking for a library with modern conveniences don't come here.

I have moved a lot in my life and therefore been apart of a lot of libraries and I have NEVER been treated like this by freaking library staff. They berated me for putting books into the book drop off and going in and getting more books at our other library it wasn't an issue and they acted like I should've known better I wasn't told that they only check it certain times and there was no paper saying we only check the box at X times. I have 3 small children so it's difficult just getting out and I have fond memories of the library but how I have been treated the last 2 times (the only two times I have been in there) is ridiculous.

The strengths of this library--the size of a small home with three or four rooms--are its multi-county genealogy resources, the children's reading area and the reference section. You won't find banks of computers, nor will you find a large reading room; just a very traditional, small town library across from the old Vienna (pronounced VY-anna) Court House. You can also buy books by local authors and genealogy reference materials directly from the library. Pay close attention to the hours: Open every day, 1pm-5pm; closed Thursday & Sunday. There's parking in front and around the courthouse.

I love being able to find most any book quickly and even if I need help finding what I want, the staff is willing to research the catalogs and get it.
