If you're visiting Oʻahu, do yourself a favor and stop by Full Fathom Five. It ended up being one of the most memorable stops of our entire honeymoon. From the moment my wife and I walked through the door, Mark made us feel genuinely welcome. It didn't feel like we were walking into a gift shop--it felt like we were visiting an old friend. We spent a long time talking with him, hearing about his life, his wife Christine who personally makes many of the pieces in the store, and their marriage while celebrating our own honeymoon. The shop itself is incredible, filled with unique pieces created by local artists and members of the community. There are so many one-of-a-kind handmade gifts at reasonable prices, and it's the kind of place where you can find something meaningful instead of the typical tourist souvenirs. What touched me most, though, was learning everything Mark does for the local stray cats. As a fellow cat lover, seeing his compassion was inspiring. He cares for more than 20 stray cats and kittens, feeding them every night, helping get them spayed and neutered, taking them to veterinary appointments when they need care, and working to find the kittens safe, loving homes through rescues and adoptions. The amount of time, effort, and kindness he pours into these animals is truly remarkable. Supporting this shop means supporting someone who gives so much back to his community--not just through the local artists he showcases, but through the care he shows for animals and the people he meets. Mark is one of the kindest, most genuine people we've had the pleasure of meeting, and we're grateful our honeymoon led us to his shop. We stopped by on our last day in Hawaii because our 5-year-old was so excited to buy some sea glass. Unfortunately, we arrived 45 minutes before they were scheduled to open, but Mark opened the door early and made it a wonderful experience for all of us and a great positive memory for our last day. You could feel Mark's passion as he shared the stories and backgrounds of each local artist whose work was featured in his store. Wish I would have known about this beautiful art gallery earlier since I'm flying home tomorrow and they aren't open on Mondays, but they have a website or I can contact them to order more pieces. Stopping at the Tanaka Plantation Store Complex in Kahuku on a drive around the island with my significant other, I went into Full Fathom Five, a new store in the complex. I'm so happy I did! I love unique and unusual things, especially jewelry, and was immediately taken with the sea glass jewelry of Christine Pagano! Made with wire, chain or leather, each piece is unique and can be worn "hard," meaning never taken off for months or even years at a time! Keep in mind that these pieces are glass, so a modicum of care is obviously necessary so as not to completely shatter each one-of-a-kind piece. I found a piece that was "me," and Christine immediately set to customizing my piece to my exact specifications! I proudly wore my piece out if the boutique and can't wait to show it to family and friends! The versatility of each piece allows wearing it long or layered and shorter. Mark (Christine's spouse) and Christine shared an article that was just in yesterday's Star-Advertiser "Buy Local" Section on page B2, by Erika Engle, which I happily read while Christine busily worked on my piece. They are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary today, July 4th! Congratulations!!! And Christine offers classes; definitely going to do that when I get a group of friends together! I was on my way to the north shore, and saw this shop on my drive. I decided to stop in to look around and see if anything sparked my interest. This was about 5:29pm. Upon stepping onto the porch of the store, the older gentleman that works there stomped over and declared "WE'RE CLOSED!" I stared back at him, shocked by the lack of hospitality. He again repeated "WE'RE CLOSED!" and stared back at me until I stepped off the porch. I told him to have a nice night, and he did not reply. I was very disappointed in my expletive there, and will not be going back. What a shame. read more

Went out of our way to find this place on a recommendation and got there at closing. I'm a novice about sea glass but had looked at the photos on this Facebook page. Since pink is my favorite color we asked if they had any pink earrings. This woman, Christine, laughed in my husband's face. Apparently pink is rare. So it seems are this woman's manners. She showed me one item she had for sale. The only item in the store not already sold and gave me a price of $100 - for earrings. My husband was too insulted by her demeanor to consider giving her money and rewarding her bad behavior. I encourage you to stay away from this shop and spend your money at one of the many shops on Oahu where they exhibit a wonderful Aloha spirit toward their customers. read more

What a find! Christine and her husband are a wealth of knowledge on all things that get washed up on the ocean! She takes beautiful sea glass pieces and turns them into amazing jewelry without drilling or altering the glass in any way. It takes hours and hours of beachcombing to find these treasures and Christine kindly parts with them so we may enjoy them. On top of that she and Mark are kind, helpful and generous. Our family was looking for something to do while a tropical storm was dumping rain all day and we ran across Full Fathom Five while doing some shopping. Christine was having an art class that Friday so we signed up. She is a very creative artist and we had a lot of fun while she guided us through an hour and a half art project class. Amazing find. We strolled in not sure because the shops Right next door are the super touristy tee shirt type shops. But this boutique is gorgeous- supporting all local artisans . We purchased a beautiful hand crafted bracelet by Christine for my daughter. She absolutely loves it and she custom fit it for her plus sold us extra leather bands for her to use for different occasions (for a great deal, I think they may have even given them to us) but if not the bands were very reasonably priced as is the jewelry ,the couple that owns and runs the shop are just wonderful, happy to show you products without any pushy sales stuff. Jewelry is all amazing one of a kind , beautifully crafted and they also have some cool decor items too. Must stop if your in the area . read more
