Less than fifteen hours before the scheduled call, they contacted me to say that this was outside the scope of his work. I had already waited a full week for this appointment. That entire week was wasted time that I could have spent finding another attorney. If they had told me upfront that this was not something they handled, I would have gone elsewhere immediately. Terribly unprofessional. I had a bunch of work for these people, including incorporation and a ton of contracts. They told me they didn't have availability for over a week, so we scheduled the earliest appointment. I put it on my calendar and I waited patiently for the appointment. The morning of the appointment, one of their client coordinators emailed me telling me that I had to reply to her email to confirm the appointment or else we had to reschedule. This is pretty silly. I was in meetings and had no ability to see this email, so how am I supposed to reply? Not replying doesn't mean I don't want the appointment, it means I can't reply. Also, all the previous emails I got from a totally different office staff member only said that I had to email if I wanted to cancel. Not just to keep the appointment. This kind of policy is pretty annoying. If I schedule an appointment, it's my job to remember and be on time. You can remind me if you want, but you're not allowed to contact me and demand a response shortly before the appointment, not knowing whether I'm available or not, telling me that the appointment won't happen unless I respond. Needless to say, I wasn't able to respond. Not because I didn't want the appointment, but because I was scheduled for other things earlier in the day and therefore couldn't respond. You know, the thing where people have to do other things with their day. Shortly before the appointment started, I received another email from the client coordinator saying that "due to an emergency" the appointment had to be canceled. The coordinator suggested rescheduling the appointment for another week later. You're joking, right? You made me wait a week and you want me to wait yet ANOTHER week just for an initial phone call? These guys must think that they're way cooler than they actually are. Nobody has any business waiting two weeks when there are even better attorneys readily available on Yelp and elsewhere. The only reason I was even contacting these guys was to cover my bases and compare pricing and strategies. On top of that, they had this really long, form that amounts to lame busywork, with tons of the questions that are totally irrelevant until you decide you definitely want to work with them. Making people fill this out before a basic first phone call with the attorney is unnecessary. All I want during the first phone call is to get a feel for the attorney's personality, to see whether this is someone I want to work with, and to get answers to a few basic questions about what I need help with and see if those things are possible on how much they cost. I don't want homework, nor do you need all this information prior to a first phone call. (If you try scheduling an appointment with these guys, you'll see what I mean: I'm not just being lazy, but the form is simply unnecessary at this stage of the process. The first phone call with an attorney is like a sales call: it's basically just a meet-and-greet where you go over very basic information and get a feel for each other. You don't need to start gathering reams of information via form until you actually move forward.) TLDR: They made me wait a week to schedule an appointment, scheduled it then canceled it out of nowhere after I had waited that entire week, tried to reschedule me for ANOTHER week later, contradictory policies on scheduling, disorganized office. read more
