This is a historical site so there is history to be seen. Stop by with the family, if you go in the winter make sure that you are bundled up as it gets very windy and cold.

This lighthouse is not only a magnificent architectural marvel, but it also carries with it centuries of history. Originally built in the 2nd century by the Romans, the Torre de Hércules is the oldest working lighthouse in the world. It was constructed under the reign of Emperor Trajan and is believed to have been designed by the architect Gaius Sevius Lupus. The tower served as a guiding beacon for ships navigating the treacherous waters along the northwestern coast of Spain. Getting to the site involves a fairly steep walk up a hill, and once you're there, you'll need to climb the stairs to reach the top of the tower. It's a workout, for sure, so I recommend being in decent physical condition if you plan to make the ascent. But trust me, the climb is well worth it--the views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see the stunning Galician coastline stretch for miles! What makes this site even more impressive is how well it's been preserved and maintained. Since 2009, it's been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, ensuring its careful conservation and protection. Inside the tower, there are informative displays that take you through its historical significance, adding depth to the visit. I couldn't give anything less than a five stars on this review, because whether you're a history buff or just looking for a unique landmark to visit, Torre de Hércules is a must-see in La Coruña!

Came to Santiago for the Cathedral. It's one of THE sights in Spain and well-known beyond Spain…read more And definitely one of the most impressive Cathedrals I've ever visited. And I've seen many. The Cathedral is the legendary burial site of Saint James the Greater, an apostle of Jesus Christ. According to tradition, his remains were discovered in the 9th century by a hermit guided by a miraculous star, prompting King Alfonso II to build a small church on the site. This discovery transformed the city into one of medieval Christendom's most important pilgrimage destinations, giving birth to the famous Camino de Santiago network. Construction of the grand Romanesque cathedral seen today began in 1075 under King Alfonso VI to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims. Over the centuries, the structure expanded with magnificent Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque enhancements, most notably the iconic Obradoiro facade that dominates the main square today. Today, it remains a powerful living symbol of faith, European history, and spiritual endurance as millions of travelers continue to finish their journeys at its altar. It's popular for good reason, it's an architectual masterpiece and full of details. We were just standing there in awe for a while, discovering more and more details everywhere we've looked. It's beautiful. We didn't go inside though, there was a pretty big queue and we were travelling with our Bulldog. There were lots of visitors, but we managed to get a good look and some really nice pics. Later on several school groups arrived and the space filled up very quickly. We were happy being here before the place was really packed. I would advise to show up here surely before lunchtime. After visiting don't miss out on the rest of town. There are plenty of wonderful streets and lanes to discover. More interesting buildings and art everywhere. Also the nice (but pricey) market.

Maybe not as grand as the Vatican, but after being to both, I love this cathedral much more... Great views, great vibe, great mass (if you're into such a Catholic thing), and a great cobblestone surrounding city to get your walk on... It's amazing! If you've never, you should! Prost!
