It's just around the bend from the Guggenheim so if you've had your fill of fantastic artworks and you're headed to the Old Town for a pinxtos, then you'll spot this bridge. There are stairs and light ramp on both sides. I found the bridge to be absolutely lovely, even with the slight addition on the side for the Isozaki Atea towers.

We were given crusty bread, which was better than expected. We ordered coppa and croquettes as appetizers. The coppa was great and the croquettes were creamy. Our first main was pig tripe and noses in Biscay sauce. The flavor was good, but I saw some tiny hairs on a few of the pieces. The portion was small and I was worried the second main was going to be small as well. Thankfully, the oxtail was more substantial. They were meaty and tender. Overall, I left happy.

It was cooked perfectly for all of us, came with french fries and we got some really good crusty bread. We shared a salad, which was also pretty tasty. One couple had their cheesecake and it was different than in the United States. It also came with some ice cream. I got a sorbet with champagne and it was more like a drink than sorbet. Oh the wine that was recommended was very good. Prices were very reasonable for what you got.

I prefer paintings to sculpture and I'm not a fan of animals chainsawed in pieces, bathed in formaldehyde, and put on display. Nor un-made beds lauded as such. I have seen art that has just stopped me in my tracks and for years I enjoyed visiting museums but as my already poor sight diminishes it's not as rewarding as it once was. What was annoying around this museum were the beggars - mobile phones and cigarettes in hand - and they are aplenty around the centre of Bilbao too. One young guy had it well sussed as when people said they only had credit cards and phones to pay he escorted victims into local cafes for food and coffee. He even helpfully knew the locations of bank cash machines. Oh I had a friend who went insane progressively and is now dead but as he sunk into insanity he became more and more convinced that formaldehyde (pH3, -92c melting point and -19c boiling point) was responsible for all human disaster including wars, cancers and he set about writing to politicians, Royalty and the media to alert them to this world-ending threat. I only remembered this triggered by the formaldehyde animals.

We caught "F.O.G." by Fujiko Nakaya, which is active every hour on the hour- hours are dependent on the month. "Red Arches" by Daniel Burenbhas has a lighting show and "Fire Fountain" by Yves Klein are both active in the evening. The museum consists of contemporary and modern art. I'm not a big museum person, but there were things that I enjoyed. I was pleasantly surprised to see one of Yayoi Kusama's infinity mirrored rooms- "A Wish for Human Happiness Calling from Beyond the Universe". I wished they let you in the room longer when there wasn't much of a line. "The Matter of Time" by Richard Sierra on the ground floor was also fun to walk around/through. The second floor was mostly closed, so we didn't get the full experience. Overall, the museum is a must if you're in Bilbao.

It's five…read morestars all the way for the lovely Patrizia who had an organized and diverse food experience for me. She was super responsive to my emails and our arrangement went smoothly. We started right on time (actually a little early) and made a good number of stops as we toured around Bilbao on foot. Great bites, terrific wines and a very tasty beer on the way. I didn't need to customize my food preferences, but if you do, that's not a problem. Our pinxtos included a delicious crabmeat, Spanish omeletas, something made with fresh cod and olive oil, a super fresh spinach croquet, fresh beer at a local brew pub and even a tasty kalimotxo (which you'll just have to look up yourself or you won't believe what it is). When it was done, I was stuffed. Super stuffed. But, um, I still managed to go out to dinner later (after a two hour siesta!) to the seafood restaurant that Patrizia recommended. Patrizia clearly knows this city and she knows the food culture here. Her willingness to share it with me made for a wonderful experience and has me wanting more, more, more of Bilbao. Her English was excellent and completely understandable. My Spanish? Not so much, lol. If you're looking for a good deal on a great food tour in Bilbao, you'll do no better than this one.

Hotel rooms were as per our expectations except one. The hotel at Sevilla had overwhelming sewer smell at the reception and the breakfast area. It was not a pleasant experience having breakfast with the over powering smell. The room we stayed had no issue.
