We thought it would be nice to give the local carrier a try for internet and cable, so we went with FTC. Their advertised prices were reasonable. Here's why we stopped using them:
1) We had to sign up for a land line with them to do business with them, so the overall internet + phone service was more than $50 per mo.
2) Fees for equipment rental, HD TV and DVR "access" were ridiculous, difficult to understand from the bill, and not part of the advertised prices at all.
3) Cost. Did I mention that the $79.99 "bundle" for internet/phone/cable with mid-grade internet speed and no premium channels ran us actually $150 per mo? This is just as much (or more) than their competitors, who do a much better job and throw in a few premium channels.
4) Poor customer service. They are only open regular business hours. That's right, M-F, 8-5 and Sat AM. Repairs are open 24/7, so when your internet drops off mysteriously (as it does multiple times per day) you can reach them but when you're paying their cryptic bills at night and have questions you're out of luck.
5) No On-Demand programs, as we'd experienced previously with the big-name other guys. They say they have them, but dig deeper - they don't really have anything except a few kids' cartoons. read more
