What are the cost and hours?

We were paying $60 per hour, which seems to be the standard rate. They use a specially-equipped duo brake car for training. Hours are flexible, in two-hour time slots, between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. My daughter felt extremely… Read more

We chose this driving school for my daughter, and she attended class every Sunday until completion…read more The place is on the second floor. Parking is limited in the front and can feel a bit sketchy, so I definitely recommend picking up your kids on time. The classroom was really cold for my daughter, which was her main complaint. Other than that, she said the class itself was fine and easy to follow. One important thing to know: the behind-the-wheel (BTW) driving slots are very limited, so students need to sign up as early as their 3rd week of class. We didn't realize how backed up it was--my daughter's BTW ended up being scheduled about 3 months after the classroom portion ended. They do provide some snacks in the classroom, which was a nice touch. (I think it's for sale -- need to clarify that). One important thing to know: if your child misses even one class, they can't make it up individually. They have to stop and wait to join the next batch because the classes have to be taken continuously. So make sure your schedule is solid before enrolling. Overall, it gets the job done, but definitely plan ahead for parking and behind-the-wheel scheduling.

She explains everything clearly, never rushes, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her students' success. My son learned so much from her and actually looked forward to lessons, which says it all. Greg is also amazing behind the scenes. He is organized, responsive, and makes scheduling and communication so easy. If you are looking for a driving school that is professional, caring, and genuinely invested in helping new drivers succeed, I absolutely recommend Driving School of Hawaii. Suzanne and Greg make an awesome team.

Jacob is excellent!…read more Life is busy, and we thought it would be extremely difficult to get our 16-year-old licensed--especially with all the Honolulu Graduated Driver Licensing Program requirements, which felt intimidating to us as newbies. Thanks to Jacob, the entire process was smooth and stress-free. He was responsive, patient, and an excellent communicator, guiding us step-by-step through exactly what needed to be done. Our daughter attended six consecutive Sunday classroom sessions and, despite some initial apprehension, ended up really enjoying herself. Jacob made the classes fun and engaging with group assignments, skits, videos, and friendly competitions. He even bought boba for the winners--which alone would have won our daughter over! As an added bonus, she got to know students from other schools. The one-on-one behind-the-wheel sessions were just as wonderful. Jacob's car has a passenger-side brake, which eased a lot of our fear and helped our daughter progress much faster. Over the course of the required 50 hours of parent-child driving practice, we noticed a clear boost in her confidence after every session with Jacob. It was also incredibly helpful that he took her on the actual test route the day before her exam, which made her feel fully prepared. Our daughter "passed first crack," and we couldn't be happier! To top it off, Jacob highlights his students' accomplishments on Instagram, which is fun and motivating. We were so fortunate to have found him--Jacob is truly the best!

And Mr. Wong definitely did not disappoint. My son first attended the required 6 weeks of classroom instruction with Mr. Wong. Then followed up with 3 (2 hour sessions) behind the wheel sessions with Mr. Wong. These behind the wheel sessions were definitely most helpful with my son gaining the confidence he needed to start driving. I know Mr. Wong was able to answer any questions my son would have had and Mr. Wong is definitely better equipped to teach my son the rules of the road more than I am. I know that it's because of Mr. Wong's instruction that my son was able to pass his road test on his first attempt. And even more so, he got as perfect score! Thank you Mr. Wong!

I took the adult driving program with instructor Lenard Wong. While he might be a good driver himself, he is not a good instructor for beginners. I would only recommend him to people who already know how to drive and just need a refresher. For first-time and nervous drivers like me, I highly discourage choosing him. Every time I made a mistake, he would scold, yell, or sigh. This made me incredibly anxious and unable to focus. To make matters worse, he barely explained the rules or how to use the car's mirrors, mechanisms, and other essential functions, nor did he give detailed tips on how to drive well. By the second lesson, he made me drive on the main streets without proper, detailed preparation. Yes I made a lot of mistakes but everyone makes mistake and has different pace. I am trying to learn and that is what I am paying for but with him I am barely learning to drive. If you have zero driving experience, I strongly advise looking for a different driving school or instructor who is patient and thorough.

He proceeded to ask where i learned from and i said my friend and he told me that they didnt know what they were doing even though they have been driving for 6 years. and i had my road test and on the way he FELL ASLEEP but i wasnt gonna let that stop me. when we got there he wanted to get some practice in so we drove the kapolei route and when driving pass a cross walk i slowed down which he asked me why i did so, i couldnt give an answer at the time i just thought its was right and he said there was no reason to and low and behold that was something i got marked down for because i was supposed to slow down incase pedestrians wanted to walk. do not recommend if you guys get leonard im not sure about any other intructor apart of this company i have not been introduced to anyone new.

Brian is Highly recommended!…read more I had my road test today and passed on my first try! A huge thank you to Brian for helping me get there. I'm 33 years old and had never touched a steering wheel before I started lessons with Brian. The fact that I passed on my first attempt speaks volumes--you just need a great instructor, and Brian is the one. No doubt about it. Brian is patient, calm, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I am a very slow learner, but he took the time to teach me the basics first and then gradually built my skills and confidence from there. He never rushed me and always made sure I understood each lesson before moving on. As someone whose first language is not English, it was especially helpful to have an instructor who was patient and able to explain things clearly. Brian made the learning process comfortable and stress-free. He teaches everything you need to know to be fully prepared for your driving test and genuinely wants his students to succeed. If you or a loved one are looking for a driving instructor, I highly recommend Brian at A to Z Driving School. He will work with you until you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to pass your test. Thank you again, Brian!

He uses very effective teaching tools to clearly demonstrate the rules of the road and proper driving skills. I am a teacher at the University of Hawaii, and from a teaching perspective, I am truly impressed by the quality of his instruction. He genuinely cares about his students and is invested in helping them succeed. I am from Hong Kong and started with absolutely no driving experience. I didn't even know how to ride a bike or operate a vehicle. I was starting completely from zero. Brian taught me step by step with great patience. Even when I made mistakes, he never scolded me. Instead, he was always encouraging and supportive. I only began lessons in late December, and I obtained my license on April 16, taking the test in Kapahulu, which is known to be quite challenging. Although I failed my first attempt, Brian carefully explained what went wrong and worked with me to develop a clear plan to improve my weaknesses. As a non-native English speaker, I also appreciated how clear and easy Brian is to communicate with. Despite living in town, he was willing to travel all the way from Mililani to teach me. Brian is experienced, knowledgeable about the rules and skills required, and always provides clear, structured guidance. I feel very fortunate to have had him as my driving instructor.
