Fruit is our go-to. It's colorful and pretty, and different fruits appeal to different people. Christina, the owner of Fruit Pantry, helped me to select fruits that were in season and finger fruits for our event. The execution was great! Delivery was prompt. All the fruits looked at the peak of flavor and freshness. The fruit was handled with care and displayed in an inviting manner. I got so tired of buying produce at name brand grocery stores that were just tasteless garbage. I…read morehad given up on tomato's especially, since they hardly tasted like they used to. Then I started going here. The difference is unbelievable. Vegetables taste like they used to. Farm grown stuff is just so much better than that hot house, multi vine grown crap you get at the stores. Greens has such a great selection. Produce, fruit, lots of other items, like salsa's, sauces, chips, and tons of other things, and all of it has been really good stuff. Yes, prices are a little higher, but to me it's worth it. Other than the always great tomato's, they always have avocado's that are ready to go, not bright green ones you have to sit on the counter for a week waiting for them to get ripe. They also have a lot of premade stuff, like queso, chicken and potato salads, a reach in fridge full of stuff. They also have a good selection of plants for sale. Just about any produce item, and many fruits, are all here and all quality stuff. Once you start getting produce from here, you'll never buy any mass produced crap from the other stores again. Now, I still buy plenty of food from stores, but yea I guess I'm pretty rabid about crappy corporate produce, lol.

My issue is not that the berries are repackaged nor is it about whether berries are in season locally. My concern is the lack of transparency. To me, the presentation and lack of labeling/pricing feel misleading as a customer. For example, if commercially grown berries (such as pesticide heavy Driscolls) are repackaged into open fruit baskets and sold in a store called a farmers market with no labels, pricing, signage, or disclosure of their source unless someone specifically asks, a customer could assume they're locally grown. (I'm using Driscoll's only as an example as again, I have no idea what brand you actually sell.) There's also a food safety concern. Repackaging produce into unlabeled containers removes Traceability customers rely on. If a specific lot was recalled because of an outbreak, how would customers know whether the berries they purchased were affected? I don't work for the Texas Department of Agriculture, so I'm not claiming any of these is a violation but the lack of transparency could raise consumer protection concerns. At the end of the day I simply believe customers deserve clear information about what they're buying.
