Saw this as we were driving around and are very happy we stopping. Great museum of the western frontier. The exhibits are detailed and several have holograms that tell their story. We were very impressed with how tough life must have been on the frontier in a cattle drive and just simply living day to day. We both learned a lot and talked about the experience on our drive Fort Stockton. Well worth a visit if you have an hour or so.

Stopped here on our way to Big Bend National Park. This museum is a must see. Engaging displays and a realistic look at life on the frontier. Eye opening narratives and displays are eye opening to the brutal life of all who lived here in this era. This is a must see!

Easy to get to. They have plenty of photo ops and lots of stories to read as you walk around the lawn. Pet friendly, just have them pee before you go inside, is the rule. The history museum is so cool, I recommend you stop here and take some time to check it all out, There is lots of parking, and it's gated. The shop has lots of gift options, I grabbed a necklace, earrings set for under $25. There are mini bison stuffed animals for your doggy.

Abilene, (Taylor Co.) Texas. Timestamp: April 2021. Location: North 1st near where North 2nd St ends in DT Abilene. Parking: Large private lot. Handicap: Flat, paved. Great place for disabled & those with health issues. Hours: M-Sat 9-6. Sun 1-5p. Costs: $10 Museum Type: Local History Museum. Collection at time of visit: GUNS, frontier life & settlements, Commanche/Native Americans, buffalo economics, Cowboys & Longhorn Cows, and military. Things to do at museum: Museum interior has strong interactive exhibits and a good amount of statues on the exterior including a big ole bull skull. The exhibits are maintained/organized precisely with great lighting, literature and ease to navigate. In addition are many interactive kiosks with video recordings of various themes and points of view. The Native American sections have actors providing two major points of view on how to deal with the settlers (fight or not fight). These opinions from Natives are rarely displayed at many museums for whatever reason but not so much at Frontier. There is a larger theatre room with screens encircling the entire dome room with various sounds, characters, experiences and all that. I absolutely loved it~! and my opinion is many folks who are into museums will appreciate such efforts. The museum is packed with a plethora of armaments from the past centuries. The presentation of such guns were amazing considering the age, general depreciation and so forth. Abilene is in Central Texas appx 180 miles west of DT Dallas & 1,250 miles east of DT Los Angeles, California. History develops while art stands still. www.cleeshyun.com @cigarcpa @cleeshyun

We travel from North Carolina to the California/Arizona border on a road trip & this was an amazing place! So rich in history, we learned all kinds of things in here. It's incredible what you learned in school & just kinda forgot because you don't think about it daily. Absolutely worth your time!

I was the only one in the "next group" for the intro video, and he even delayed the start time since I ran to the restroom before roaming the grounds.

It was a nice afternoon in Abilene when my girlfriend and I explored the historic Grace building…read moreand visited the Grace Museum. We got in a little after noon to see new exhibits that had genuinely just opened for the season that day. The museum is very quiet and, thanks to road construction, a little confusing to get to, but it is worth the drive and adventure. As we arrived, we noticed that a wedding was being set up in their courtyard and event space, and we were in awe of how cute the space was for a wedding. On the first floor was the Gail Norfleet collection, where we were amazed by these multi-layered plexiglass paintings that added depth to her floral pieces and recreated rooms. It is such a unique style. Gail's use of color is quite impressive. On the second floor sat the other two new exhibits. The first was Focus on Photography: Selections from the Permanent Collection, which includes a diverse and vast collection of still images printed on numerous materials such as gelatin, inkjet, tintype, and metal, giving each image a unique display. As a photographer myself, this was my favorite exhibit. My girlfriend's favorite was the Cindi Holt collection showcasing colorful, prairie-inspired pieces. Other areas included the play zone that has the tower challenge and the history exhibits on the third floor focusing on downtown Abilene and the Texas railway. I'm excited to return to the Grace Museum next time I'm in Abilene when new exhibits are on display. What a cute and small museum! Everything is thoughtfully designed. They have a kid's section that was fun even for adults. Definitely check this place out.
