The apartment and its…read morebuilding are a bit run down -- carpet that was ripped upon moving in, the outside stairwell was unstable (to the point of being worrying) for most of my time in one of the apartments. But they are affordable, so most of these things could be forgiven. However, things went particularly south with regards to moving out. Despite cleaning the carpets three times over (something that was apparent the last tenants did not do based on the debris that came up) + cleaning the bathroom and kitchen, nearly half of my deposit was deducted because I was billed for a "professional carpet cleaning." Because we did not contract out to do so, and it was not properly communicated that that was a requirement. There was no notice about when deposits would be returned (I had to follow up myself to make sure the check was mailed out). There was also no communication as to why the carpet, kitchen and bathroom needed to be cleaned. After raising issues with the owner of the company, he told me to "contact the courthouse if I want my money" and hung up the phone. I had recommended one friend to rent through Mitchell Rentals before this moveout process. I now regret it and will refrain from doing so in the future. There are other affordable places in Columbia. You don't need to go with them.

From the very first conversation we had over the phone, I knew we would have a wonderful experience working together. To say he was helpful is an understatement. He has a wealth of knowledge not only of the Columbia area, but also of how to navigate the home buying process. There were things that Matt helped us realize we needed to look out for that never crossed our minds. We immediately felt that we could trust him and that he placed our wants and needs above his own. He was always willing to work with our schedules and met us to see houses at odd hours. We looked for a home for many months and never for a second felt rushed or pressured to buy. Matt was encouraging when we felt stressed and was excited along with us once we found a home we loved. I know many people have negative home buying experiences that can cause stress, but you can't go wrong if you go with Matt. If we ever decided to move one day, he will be the first we call!

Matt sent us listings faithfully every day - only the listings within our price range. That was very impressive because there are some who look at possible commission first, that was not Matt. Our trust in Matt was immediate. He never pressured us, he let us take whatever amount of time we needed to see listings, we never felt he had somewhere else more "important" to be. His attention to detail in the offer we eventually made was outstanding. He climbed on a ladder to help us choose a wall color and stood outside in 100+ temperatures to pick a front door color. A long distance real estate purchase is trying, in the midst of it all Matt made me laugh - he has a great sense of humor. If you are considering selling your home or purchasing a home please call Matt. He will earn your trust too. We highly recommend him!

This is my second experience with House of Brokers in as many years, so now it's time for a review…read more I just closed my transaction today. Both were 1031 exchanges from out of state, so everything was done long distance. Not being there personally commands a higher level of trust with everyone involved. Jackie was the one directly responsible for making things happen smoothly. Aside from a few glitches, everything went well and closed on time. It can be confusing who you're dealing with since the procedure is a bit different than here. But no matter who I communicated with, things got done. Of course, "CC" in email definitely helps. :) Like the last transaction, Jackie provided me exactly what I was looking for and didn't try to steer me in a different direction. She worked efficiently and responded quickly to MY needs! Since I am not from the area, Jackie made sure that I made the right decisions in choosing a property; location being the biggest factor. Not to mention, she consulted with my property manager to help me identify a suitable replacement (1031). As a matter of fact, she was the one that referred me to my manager, and it's been working out well! So yeah, there's a reason why I went with Jackie (House of Brokers Realty) again. And sure glad I did...
