He had a very complicated health picture. He required IV nutrition, a PICC line, a wound vac, physical therapy and occupational therapy. They provided skilled care with a RN, PT and OT therapist. They don't live up to their advertising or their policy . They say no matter how complex they can…read morehelp you at your home exclusively without sending you to rehab or nursing home or whatever also they say that you have the right to make the choice of what you want to do with your care and your rehabilitation. Yeah they keep going on and on about going to rehab and leaving your home and staying in some kind of care center maybe being separated from your husband or wife or your family.. all one has to do is read their opening advertisement under their logo and so on and none of it has been shown to be true as far as at least five or six workers that have come to our friends home... In fact just the opposite they spoke with the owner of the business and he said that none of that stuff should be going on yet it's still going on and he never got back to the elderly people that are our friends that we witness some of this ourselves from what they told us. Not a place we'd recommend for your mother father mother and father grandmother so on some you know individual that's severely handicapped or whatever you know they want to ship you off to some kind of home and separate your family and then just leave you in there to be shipped later down to a nursing home and lay there and wait to die be alone after so long people quit coming we've seen so many old people go through this it's just horrible I wouldn't recommend this place they're leaning towards that and they're very Snoopy... They look in your covers they look in your refrigerator they ask you questions are not supposed to ask a question what your doctor recommended for you as far as medicine ... My friend's husband talked to the director or the owner he said that none of that stuff should be going on and that they don't do those kind of things but they did two of the nurses one said the man would never walk again if he didn't go to rehab out of his home and he'd have to go there without his wife and stay there at a rehab center who knows how long and one of the other ones keep saying it every time she comes she says go to the rehab center or go to the Care center.. these folks want to be independent in their home they want to "live in place" it's called.. like 80 plus percent of seniors want to live in place.. live and die in your home with your family and your loved ones not in some strange place where you don't really know nobody.. we're very upset to hear this from our friends being elderly they're there are clear mind able to take care of themselves and with the assistance of their family members and Friends some caregivers that are waiting to be approved by the state or whoever it is they even have nurses in the family. So they're well taken care of their home is clean and safe and has plenty of room for physical therapy commodes walkers... They live out on a farm type setting with their family right next door very peaceful quiet they've known their neighbors for 22 years on this road out here and on this private road for 12 years and their neighbors are like family to them they love their neighbors and their neighbors love them... Yet these people from Columbia River want to put these elderly friends of ours in a home or tell him that they'll never walk if they don't go to a rehab center these are cruel things to say to people...well if you ever read the policy of Columbia River home health Care Kennewick he'll know that it's not what it's cracked up to me cuz none of that really happens at least it didn't with our friends we wouldn't recommend this place for it anybody's grandma or grandpa or mother or father. ..

The Chaplaincy Hospice is a kind and caring source of support at the end of life. They started as…read morea a group of reps from churches who provided chaplain support and counseling to those in need. Later, they became a Hospice and now they operate Hospice House with 10-beds with 24/7 nurses as well as in-home care for loved ones at the end stage of life. They also provide grief support groups for adults and kids. Hospice has a core of paid staff and between 100-150 active volunteers at any given time. There are a range of programs in which volunteers work: Hospice House and In-Home Care; cookie brigade; yard and garden maintenance; facilitators of child support groups; and office and administration. One thing I have always heard about Hospice since I first learned of Hospice when in junior high is that people don't know about all the services which Hospice does provide. In addition to the excellent medical teams (doctor, nurse, nurse aide, social worker) and the volunteer, Hospice provides respite for caregivers and of course companionship visits by volunteers for your loved one. It's a hard thing to work into a conversation or to even refer or recommend their services, because it brings up the overarching topic of death and dying and grief. However, if there was one thing I could tell everyone about Hospice, it would be simply: call them! Please call them. Arrange to speak with a social worker if you are unsure about what Hospice is and what can they do for you because they truly provide comprehensive care for loved ones and caregivers alike. I am a big proponent of Hospice as my own grandmother had Hospice during her final days. We were so blessed that we did not have to experience her passing alone. Thanks to the on-call emergency nurse and nurse aide, they were there to make the difficult phone calls while we sat in the depth of our grief. Did you know that your loved ones can receive Reiki - an energy healing and stress reduction therapy? Did you know that Hospice has 2 volunteer therapy dogs? The dogs provide calm companionship for loved ones. Working with the dying is a special kind of calling, and all of the staff and volunteers who work for Hospice are passionately committed to serving the needs of the community with peace and kindness.

You can't even tell there's a scar unless I point it out. He was very good about bearing bad news. I had cancer. But he didn't say the word "cancer." He said "I think you have lymphoma" and that it was easy to treat and that my chances of recovery would be very good. He then told me that the usual course of treatment was chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It wasn't until that point that I knew it was cancer. So I think he went about telling me in the best way possible. One of the nurses was telling me that he had done a carpel tunnel surgery on someone who had a tattoo on their arm and he lined it up perfectly and you could barely see the scar running down the middle of the tattoo.

Dr. Shallman saved my life in 1988 when he first came to the Tri-Cities. I will never ever forget…read morehim! He is my hero. I'd suffered from a burst appendix and perforated bowel. I had been turned away from a local hospital twice (first after 13 hours of vomiting and 2nd after another 13 hours of dry vomiting) - all one week prior to my first encounter with Dr. Shallman. I was turned away from that hospital because I had medical coupons at the time. When my sister took me to a Pasco hospital as a last resort to see if someone could help me there - that is when I first met Dr. Shallman. Dr. Shallman would not leave me until he knew I was okay. My stomach by then was distended and I looked 8 months pregnant (only I was not pregnant). I was full of peritonitis and at first it was not clear what my condition was with all the poison in me masking everything. I was told the pus burst out of my abdomen and hit the ceiling when I underwent surgery. I was that full of poison that was killing me. Dr. Shallman was such a comfort to me - seeing him pacing outside my emergency room bed. He knew I'd been turned away from the other place and he was committed to helping me. Everyone told me I should have died and would have died had it not been for Dr. Shallman's skill and commitment to his patient - me! Talk about a protector! I will never forget the cowboy boots Dr. Shallman wore. At the time I was tickled to discover that doctors wore cowboy boots. He really was such a strong person in the midst of my weakness and with his care and treatment I was released from the hospital 11 1/2 days later. Renewed with hope of an actual future life. All the nurses were so thrilled with the great result he gave me. Dr. Shallman is my hero and I can never thank him enough for saving my life. Seriously. He saved my life! His intelligence, his skill, his commitment to help me - where would I be without those gifts he brought to me? I have nothing but compliments for him and still frequently tell others of my faith in him and how he saved my life when it was hanging by a thread. I still tear up when I think of the gift of life he gave me with his skill and commitment to me. I am forever grateful to him. If there is such a thing as a dream surgeon - he is that to me. I couldn't have asked for more. I hope he gets to read this review. Still - all these years later with a healthy life now, I so admire him and am still so grateful for him being there when I needed help most.
