There can be rips in other areas of the water which are very dangerous... and I know, caught in one years ago with a confident swimmer who almost drowned. There are sunny spots to lie down and bake in the sun. There are several food outlets along the beach however they really are there for the morning crowd.

The sand is so white and the shaded area has picnic tables for the sun conscious. There are excellent change areas near the grass. Change areas just for changing and then a toilet area with showers. All the a entities are well looked after. This is a very popular area but very safe for young families. There is quite a pull in the river current to be aware of. However the beach area is patrolled by lifeguards and there flags indicating the conditions of the water.

Holding up his arm and the expensive watch I had given him for Christmas wasn't enough to get him to float as he was a dead weight in the water. We signalled ( stranger and I) for the life guards. They were there in a shot! They threw him onto the life board , oops.... ribs were heard to crack!..but he exhaled for breath! They got him to the shore and gave him oxygen, thank goodness! Only three beaches are patrolled in the southern part of the Gold Coast and this is one of them. It normally is very safe. There are open cold water showers at the beach ,change rooms and toilets at the beach. There are numerous coffee shops and restaurants along Marine Parade.

Mind you, in those mornings you do tend to find that the surfers are out and about as well, so it also gives you a nice vantage point to watch their antics as well. Yeah, it is actually quite nice.

All the pools have some heating. I was expecting to have a frozen chill as I jumped into the 50 metre pool to do laps... wow... no shock! I didn't realise the pool was heated. There are lifeguards at each pool. They are watching all the people. The change facilities are excellent! Hot shower cubicles and plenty of room even for the most disabled. Beside the Aquatic Centre is a clean well supervised gym. The equipment is new and all working. There is a cafe. It only really caters for people wanting snacks and tea/ coffee. The cost..... excellent for a senior!!!! I bought a 10 entry pass to see how I go.

I prefer a less crowded beach where you don't deal with parking issues, but it was well worth our time for a brief visit. I personally was moved by the Anzac memorials. My dad was a career soldier in the USArmy and he speaks fondly of the ANZAC troops that he served with. The handicapped work there was also a point of joy for me. There are volunteers to put you in a sand and seaworthy wheel chair. Such joy!

Then again, I wasn't the only person wandering around here on a brisk winter morning, and I certainly wasn't the youngest. So, I wouldn't quite say that this is where the border between Queensland and New South Wales meets, but it is pretty close, and it is a nice place for a stroll. Well, if you're into surfing it seems that surfers also quite like this place as well, though I'm not one of them.

The water is very deep and the rocks are incredibly dangerous...maybe it is the thrill of it all but I'd rather my dingy with a life jacket.ha I noticed that there were a number of serious surfers who were in family groups. A number of times I saw the serious surfy dads in their mid to late 40s with their grown up children, all paddling out to get that monstrous wave. However not too far out from the shore was a huge whale bobbing in out of the rough waves. With the sun streaming down and the glorious heat this was a wonderful sight to see. People were gathering on the beach, on the rocks and at the nearby lookout to see this majestic mammal. The lifesavers were very busy watching from a distance and the marine helicopter flew over just checking on the people. A fantastic spot to be just at the right time. You can't get any better..sun and the surf!
