I've been going to Lori at Fringe for ~10 years. She's taken my hair from dark brown to blonde and back. She helped me transition to grey and back to dark brown. Lori suggests when I want to try something new to bring in a few photos. She'll ask me what I like about them and then give feedback what she sees in the photos as a stylist. It's always eye-opening and helps guide my style so that I always get what I want. She's so good at supporting and putting up with the constant changes I want to make. I rebook at after each visit but usually stop in for a blowout between treatments. I can never achieve the kind of glossy blowouts I get from her. Off the beaten track location but super-hip hair cut spot! I went in with a mess as far as hair goes, partly due to my very fine and thin hair. I had an open mind and let stylist Tara help me pick out a style and color to pump up my flair a touch. She worked with my wimpy locks to find a cut that looked awesome leaving the shop and totally held its style when I just washed and dried at home the next day. The color was not something I would have thought to pick and ended up being perfect. She listened to me, and even though I didn't even know how to ask for what I wanted she heard me and delivered a style that suited my taste as well as my face shape and coloring. This place is great. The owner is very welcoming and the stylists were all super helpful in aiding my decision of what to do with my hair. I scheduled my appointment with Meghan. I initially wanted braids. Then I changed my mind, and wanted a pixie cut. She got about 3/4 of the way done with that, and I changed my mind again. I wanted her to shave it off. A one star review for an appointment that didn't even get to happen. Accepted an appointment, then told me they didn't have enough time for said appointment and the price was unreasonable. They have pictures of other hair colors and styles that are even more intricate than what I wanted to go for, but I was told not enough time. On both their website and Instagram pictures, they have hair colors that are even more intricate than what I was asking for. Don't allow people to make appoints and then tell them it will take too long with an unreasonable price. This was BS and something I was looking forward to only to be turned down immediately. read more

I went to Tara after purchasing the Cruzon Daily Deal which gets you highlights, conditioning treatment, and a cut for only $55. Let me tell you, it was the best $55 I've spent in a long time. Now, I'm not a salon girl. I dye my hair with box dies, and being from San Francisco, I usually head straight to those $14 haircut places on Noriega or Irving. Just put in a few layers and I'm good to go. But I decided to splurge (if you could call it that) and let a trained professional handle my tresses. Tara was amazing! When picking the color of my highlights she knew exactly which colors would look good on me and explained to me how she would fade them and angle them so that they looked natural. The cut she gave me was fabulous! She was able to keep my length, remove all the dead weight, and put in the right amount of layers to give my hair movement and volume. Absolutely what I wanted. The conditioning treatment was amazing. A week later and my hair still feels softer and healthier than it has in years. After cutting my hair, Tara styled it beautifully. Admittedly, I am horrible at doing my hair. But I went out and bought a blow dryer (for the first time--I know, what kind of girl am I..) and a round brush in hopes of somehow learning to replicate what she did. Five stars for amazing work, amazing deal, and feeling amazing about myself while walking out of Fringe. read more
