We love The Children's Center! Everybody is always so welcoming and very interested in my child. My…read moredaughter loves all of her teachers and cant wait to go to school everyday. My daughter has learned so much in the short amount of time that she has been there and it just wipes away all of the fears about daycare. I know everyday when I drop my daughter off she will be taken are of the best way possible!

The Children's Center (TCC) has been perfect for my family and me. We started attending preschool…read moreclasses in February 2010 with my two oldest sons. They did not need to be potty-trained and TCC worked with us to accomplish that goal. In March 2010 we decided to enroll our then 3 month old in the infant room and TCC worked with my schedule so that everyday I could come and nurse him when I needed to. The Zoo-phonics used at TCC has helped advance both my older boys in their current school and at ages 5 and 6, they are working on reading to me at night! My 4 year old is still with TCC and I love the faith based stories they teach him. He asks many questions about God and prays at home before meals. They work on gifts for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas and more in order to teach the children about giving rather than receiving and they have the best programs in the spring at graduation time. We have also just enrolled our newest family member into the infant room, another son who is now 3 months old and we are looking forward to all the wonderful things he will learn just like his brothers did at TCC.

I've been sitting on this for a few months now, just praying on whether I should even say anything…read more But after seeing another parent finally find the courage to speak up about how they treat folk here, I knew not to keep quiet any more. My daughter actually pulled my grandbaby out of this program a while back, and a big part of that was because the way the front office carries themselves I'll never forget the day I went in there to pick up my grandbaby. I had a simple question about the sign-out, and the way the lady from the office spoke to me... it was just demanding. It was not just being "busy" it was a "better-than-you" attitude that made me feel like a nuisance just for standing there. At my age, I've dealt with plenty of schools and programs, and I know when someone is looking down their nose at you. It's a shame because you're trusting these people with your heart and soul, but they act like giving you a respectful answer is doing you a favor. If the admins can't show a grandmother some basic professional respect, they probably can't show a grandbaby any respect either, you know what I'm saying?

I believe parents deserve clear, consistent communication to effectively plan for their families; unfortunately, my experience was defined by significant administrative inconsistencies that made it difficult to get accurate information or resolutions. For example, the center failed to provide certain enrollment papers, including information about a two-week notice period required for disenrollment. When I pointed out that I was never informed of this requirement, I was met with conflicting justifications and a total lack of documentation. The most comical moment was when a staff member insisted I had agreed to it upon enrollment, then proceeded to pull an unsigned agreement out of a filing cabinet, a document I had never even seen before. Even after seeing the lack of a signature, she could not maintain an open enough mind to consider that the mistake might be on the center's end rather than mine. Most absurdly, the director refused to even speak with me, instead hiding behind the repeated phrase, 'the charges will stand.' This was not an isolated incident, but rather a recurring pattern of defensive and irrational behavior. It was a deeply uncomfortable experience that forced me to question the leadership's fitness to oversee a childcare environment. If the administration lacks the professional composure and basic integrity to resolve a documented error with an adult, I question whether they also lack the maturity and emotional regulation required to care for children.

The campus is gorgeous…read moreand everyone from students, university volunteers, staff to the President made us feel welcome. During the weekend, we caught the Tennessee State University vs Notre Dame football game (Go BIG BLUE!) - both teams played their hearts out and the marching bands put on an incredible halftime performance (AOB in the House!). The whole gameday atmosphere was electric from vendors on the streets to the alumni enjoying the many festivities! The Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Grotto were highlights, though I'll admit I didn't fully understand their significance until taking a self-guided tour (which I recorded - so glad I did!). During my tour of the Basilica, I was fortunate enough to witness people gathering in the pews, awaiting the organist's performance. I stayed for the small concert and was completely moved - the music echoing through that sacred space was truly special. You can see the magnificent instrument from the main floor. The entire church interior and exterior with the spectacular dome is a beautiful sight before your eyes. Later I learned the Basilica dates back to 1871 with one of the largest collections of 19th-century French stained glass anywhere. The Grotto is actually a one-seventh replica of the famous one in Lourdes, France, built in 1896. It's a sacred place where visitors light candles for prayer and reflection - an important spiritual landmark that represents the university's Catholic heritage. I lit several candles while I was there, it was a very peaceful and spiritual experience. Some quick tips: *Be careful where you park or you'll get ticketed. There are parking fees too. *Don't miss their bookstore - it's amazing and has something for everyone. The associates in the bookstore were very helpful. *Book hotels early, especially during football season. *There are good grocery stores nearby for room snacks and plenty of restaurants downtown. *Ubers and Lyfts are plentiful if you don't rent a car. *Do a little homework before you arrive so you can plan your day, in other words check the website before you arrive on campus. Knowledge is power! *Wear comfortable shoes - you'll do tons of walking, especially with kids at football games! Absolutely worth visiting for the beautiful architecture, grounds, and rich history that unfolds as you explore and don't forget to check out Touch Down Jesus too! As their fight song goes: 'Wake up the echoes cheering her name!'
