We recently used Friendly Monster Painting to paint the interior and exterior of our home and there are vast differences in the quality and experience in the two. We did collect multiple bids for work and they were in the middle of the prices from the quotes we collected.
Exterior Painting: The experience was very positive and the work was scheduled relatively quickly after getting our quote and agreeing to terms (within two weeks). The crew showed up, pressure-washed the exterior, and did clean-up work to seal all siding and gaps before painting. When the painting started, they did a great job with taking their time to paint everything evenly and paid attention to detail around trim, corners, etc. There were very few areas that we asked them to touch up when we walked around the house after completion that they quickly addressed and repainted. The only thing that didn't happen is we asked for them to paint all exterior doors the same color but they did the basement door differently than the other two and basically refused to match the door saying it matched the trim and that was how it would be left, not a big deal.
Interior Painting: The interior painting was challenging and I regret not canceling the work with them and moving on after the month's delay in painting and getting the work started after missed commitments to start. Once the work did start, the quality of work and lack of attention to detail became noticeable pretty quickly. We ended up with paint on appliances, floors, sheets and towels in closets, and are still finding it two weeks later as we put things back together and on the walls. After the rush job was completed and many, many things were touched up after our walk-through, they had to come back the next week because they did not fix any nail pops and cracks in the wall that they were supposed to (we marked some and they did not fix them so we assumed it wasn't included until the owner reached out). We have found trim on door frames that were completely missing paint and continue to find places on the walls that I have to touch up because the old color is still visible in the sunlight.
All in all, I would have considered them again for exterior painting only and either painted inside myself or been more critical when the crew was here. The biggest thing for me though is that the owner is so busy there isn't time for you to feel valued or get the same experience and treatment he used to offer. I was told multiple times he would be coming by or coming after the work is done or coming to finish the work (we went a full month for the completion of new trim on our wall) so he could see what we wanted to show and the experience, but he never came. The value of work and experience should have probably been priced closer to the lowest quote we got based on the work done and it is unfortunate when we like to support small, local businesses since that is what our family has been in previous generations. read more
