As a converted workshop it's a bit of a Tardis in there, with high ceilings and an upstairs room where they hold comedy nights and private parties. It feels pretty airy in there, a nice contrast to some of the darker, cosier pubs I've been to. It was fairly busy, but not so much that we couldn't get a seat (a repurposed church pew). They also don't play any background music so you can actually have a conversation. There's a decent number of beers on tap, I opted for a pint of Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' which went down a treat. For wine drinkers you can get it by the glass. All in all a very nice, fairly relaxed place to start an evening with a drink.

The converted interior is light and airy with tall ceilings which feels really welcoming, much better than the old dark interiors that a lot of pubs have. Very attentive staff who even when busy are quick to serve you. It looks like the menu has expanded which if it's as good as the breakfast should be superb. Finally try the newly opened lounge room. The chairs there are so comfortable you wont want to leave.

This whitewashed inn accessed over an old packhorse bridge claims to 'probably' be Yorkshire's oldest (1307). Got to love them covering themselves for inaccuracy there. That's over seven centuries of beery goodness which was open for trade 40 years before the Black Death! A gem of a building with wooden beams throughout - the layout inside is stepped as it's built on a decline so disabled access is obviously limited (you may wish to phone in advance if you or your family member has any mobility concerns). There's plenty of seating throughout, however, with some set back in nooks in the walls. As well as serving real ale from independent brewers, they stock genuine imported lagers from around the world. Their fridge of bottled beers looked quite comprehensive. They also have guest beers which change regularly - when I visited they had Jaipur from Thornbridge on (one of my all time favourites). They serve food but we didn't eat here on this occasion. I can guarantee I will be a punter here again when I'm over next time.

It is a large building, nicely decorated with a good range of drinks. They also serve food, but although I've looked at the menu (which was excellent and included several veggie options) I haven't eaten there so can't comment. Unusually for Sowerby Bridge, it has a massive car park right outside. It also looks out onto the canal, so on a Summer's day you can sit and watch the barges go by. A definate one to visit if you're in the area.

The interior is typical Yorkshire pub with dark wood and carpet. Fortunately they have never gone all trendy with the interior which I like. The barman even though he acts like he has hasn't smiled since 1966 knows how to serve a good pint. The food while basic has always been of a high quality. There's always been a wide range of people here from the young to the old so it's always been a nice mixed crowd. Finally very good TV sports coverage here so what excuses not to go?

This pub had a poor reputation but has been transformed into a very pleasant real ale pub and forms a useful stop off on the increasing number of real ale pubs on the growing Sowerby Bridge circuit.
