When looking for a place to stay over Easter period, I found this place and, we decided to book it…read more As a note - if you want to spend Easter in the Schwarzwald, please book months ahead as things get booked out months in advance. I booked it because it was a gourmet hotel and, was home to a 2 Michelin star restaurant.
It's located in a small village about 12k from Baiersbronn. It's right next to the river and the S Bahn station is just a hundred meters away. The S Bahn is a great way to get around the Schwarzwald and, the hotel provides you a ticket for the duration of your stay.
The room was quite ok. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We also had a balcony facing the river. The insulation was not great as you could hear the river constantly and of course the noise from the train as it came around. The decor is dated and, not my style at all. This place is appealing to older people and, it seems the hotel is setup that way.
Staff were friendly and welcoming albeit sometimes quite uncoordinated. The breakfast was quite ok and they had a whole selection of stuff. The lobby bar was nice and they made good cocktails and had a good selection of other drinks. Two restaurants in the hotel Anita Stubs and Schlossberg (see my separate reviews for both here).
The spa was good and well equipped and the staff there were helpful and friendly. The range of options for spa treatments was also quite good. Note : the sauna area here is a mixed nude area only. Not at all uncommon in spas across Germany.
The surrounding area is beautiful and there are many walking trails around the area up the hills. There is a "weinbrunnen" a wine fountain up the hills here and you can visit it. Ask hotel staff for details.
All in all an ok experience. I would not come back here only because, the decor and the ambience is much suited for older people. There is plenty of choice on the Schwarzwald and, I would like to try another place or two before determining, weather to come back here or not.
