Also they are solution-focused, client-centered and dedicated to fostering self-awareness, an extremely technical expertise and specialization which is quite rare these days and an important distinction between them and other practices. Especially refreshing is their openness to intellectual and philosophical exploration -- they welcome thoughtful reflection about the nature of the therapeutic process itself. They relish questions about the therapeutic mask, over-pathologization, the paradoxes, structure, inherent tensions and artificiality of the therapeutic frame, asymmetric authenticity, power dynamics, and performative empathy. Those giving Dr. Pickar negative reviews are those dissatisfied with his very professional demeanor…read moreand insightful perception. My spouse breached custody orders related to co - parenting more times than I care to remember. Contrary to what others said in their reviews here, he did not favor her. Dr. Pickar basically observed our children with each parent, assessing how each of us was with our children. His behavior with each of our two children was that of a school principal, a bit distant, but chuckling when our then pre schooler said she had candy bars in her bedroom "for company" as though she were a society hostess from the fifties. He was kind, but unemotional and objective. Our children were very comfortable with him despite being very young and having been through quite a bit. Contrary to what someone else said, he also completed the nearly ninety page, very well written report in record time-mere months-something the court social worker had very much requested. His report cited specific incidents and specific issues that drew him to reach his ultimate conclusion-giving me full custody. I really need to wonder about those giving Dr. Pickar such negative reviews; probably the evaluation did not go as they anticipated. Dr. Pickar is not warm and fuzzy; he is not your uncle dressing as Santa on Christmas Eve. He is a professional psychologist, very well trained and experienced, with a job to do-and he does it.

He never did the completed report, my bad for not asking him to finish. Too late to ask now.read more

I cried a lot so I'm sure some of my words were muddled! In just two sessions she created a safe space for me to talk about emotional issues I didn't even know I had. She encouraged me to carve out time in my day to feel whatever it is I needed to feel. I routinely shove my emotions down because I don't feel I have time for a breakdown. I tend to over-analyze everything and always want an answer. I will get frustrated and upset with myself if I can't find the source of whats making me so upset. Lisa told me it's okay to not know sometimes, you just need to allow yourself to feel. A simple lesson I suppose, but one I'm still learning.

Ben provided me with the tools to figure it out on my own teaching me perseverance was my middle name with resiliency in my rear view. I have been learning to show myself care, and learning to cut myself some slack. I have been learning to let life unfold and not play the puppet master so much. I have taken myself out on countless solo dates and adventures getting to know the goddess of my heart. The tools Ben taught me, gave me permission to explore myself experiencing life on human terms. He helped me take a deeper look at myself, and see why I seemed to care so deeply about the judgment of others. He helped me let that go, and I continue to let my ego go as often as I become aware. He showed me how to heal. I think of our sessions often and think to myself, "what would Ben say, or have me do to let the energy be there, and process it." He showed me how to work on my shadow allowing all she is, to just be. Ben has helped teach me to live life on life's terms. I used to think I'm in control of my surroundings where somehow expectations always seemed to disappoint. He guided me to find solace in my breath, to allow my emotions to be present without judgment, and gave me permission to follow my bliss where I can find inner peace. I will forever appreciate his help and guidance while his energy has stuck with me all this time in continuing to do the work. I feel as though once we turn the pages in our lives, we rarely find the time or energy to express our appreciation to those who made a difference, and this is me flexing my vulnerability as Ben made a huge impact on my life.
