Over the course of more than a month, I had to follow up multiple times after being told someone would get back to me and receiving no response. One of my primary questions involved how to properly calculate the amount of rent owed after a rent increase. I specifically asked whether the increased amount could be included or whether I needed to use the amount stated in the existing lease. A staff member told me she did not know and that an attorney would get back to me. No one did, and I had to follow up again. I was also asked by staff to provide banking information, including an account number, without a clear explanation of why it was needed. When I asked for clarification, I made it clear that I was happy to provide whatever information the firm required--I simply wanted to understand what was being requested and why. Additionally the email provided incorrect dates and lacked professionalism. Unfortunately, my interactions with the associate attorney, Shekhar, were even more concerning. I found him confrontational, dismissive, and difficult to communicate with. When he told me the individual units at the property needed to be physically marked, I immediately agreed to do so. Because each unit has two entrances, I tried to ask which door should be marked to make service most effective. Rather than allowing me to fully explain the question, I felt repeatedly interrupted and the call was ultimately ended abruptly. I have managed rental property for approximately 15 years but have fortunately never had to complete an eviction, which is precisely why I hired an attorney. I expected to be able to ask questions about a legal process that was new to me without being made to feel that asking those questions was an inconvenience. I also worked as a civil litigation paralegal for nearly 20 years, so I have extensive experience interacting with attorneys and law firms. This was not the level of professionalism or client communication I am accustomed to. After my call with Shekhar I immediately contacted East Bay Rental Housing for referrals to another attorney because I was so uncomfortable with how my matter was being handled and how he rude he was. I had previously spoken with Mr. Horwitz and found him courteous and informative, so I was particularly disappointed by this experience with his staff and associate attorney. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this firm.

SF regulations are layered and highly technical, but he broke everything down clearly and gave very pragmatic advice -- not just what the law says in theory, but what actually makes sense in practice. He was straightforward, thoughtful, and realistic about options and potential outcomes. I especially appreciated that he focused on practical next steps instead of overcomplicating things. It felt strategic and grounded, not alarmist. If you're dealing with a landlord-tenant issue in San Francisco and want clear, practical guidance, this firm is a solid choice.

Unfortunately, I let the negative reviews in here influence my decision and hired another attorney instead and it cost us valuable time. What immediately stood out to us was Bornstein Law's transparency. Their terms and fees are clearly listed on their website. That was a big relief after the other attorney was trying to get us to sign with their firm and start an eviction over a small issue (Bornstein Law's fees are more affordable vs the other attorney we talked to). During our consultation, we didn't have to spend a long time explaining every detail of our situation and Attorney Bornstein had already identified the issue and presented several options to resolve our tenant issue. He was direct, practical, and didn't sugarcoat anything. I can see how some people might interpret that as feeling unheard, but in our case, we appreciated his efficiency. He was also considerate enough to recommend options that would cost us less because our matter was not an eviction case. After the call, I realized why some reviews mention communication issues. At the end of our consultation, he accidentally placed us on hold, apparently thinking the call had already ended. Should we be upset about it? Maybe. But compared to finally having a clear path forward for our tenant issue, it felt like a minor mistake. We left the consultation relieved and confident about our next steps.
