First things first, it isn't really a 'square' as such - more of a truncated ovular rectangle. Secondly, Freyberg isn't some type of challenger to molenberg in the bread stakes, it is named after a New Zealander who was the General in a few Allied maneuvers in the second world war.
Freyberg Square is an interesting place, one which changes its populace as the day trudges on. From the business people who fill up the square at lunchtime, to the nighttime vagrants who drink beside the waterfall . This used to be a place which would fill up with emo kids almost every weekend, but thankfully that trend seems to have died, with the various adherents of the trend now starting to pop up among the business people of the daytime.
There are a few cafes near by, as well as Rakinos which overlooks the square from its grand balcony. read more
