Years ago I attended a poetry event and art auction inside the store but, since moving away, I'm not sure those events are still a thing. I hope they are. I couldn't count the number of sunglasses I have purchased from here if I tried. I always leave with at least one pair, a book, and various other items whether a tote bag, t shirt, button, cards, etc. I hope the business continues to be successful and would love to the location even expand a bit if that's something the owner is interested in.

When I got the thing I was like "ok this will just be wall art" it was so bad. Twisted and warped neck, electronics they must have been previously repaired by a toddler. Now it sounds exactly like I wanted it too. The pricing for the repairs was also very reasonable, I almost feel like I didn't pay enough for how clapped out it was. That's also not the only one I've brought them. I fully trust using them for repairs. Also; I had originally called other shops that were saying 2 week minimums or longer, and they did this all in like 2 for the neck and had it overnight for the electronic when I came back for that.

This is definitely not my style, haha, but it was fun browsing the store.  Our daughter found a…read moreleather jacket from the Alley Chicago Store online, which was a more toned-down style.  She read comments that the jacket could look boxy, so, she wanted to try it on in the store, and to find the right size for herself.  As we were in the city that day, we stopped by the store for her to try on the jacket. The store is located in a quiet street, but you won't miss it.  I have never seen so many black leather jackets in one place!  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  All the leather jackets were locked to the individual heavy-duty hangers, and the lady helped us find the jacket that was closest in style to what Daughter wanted, and unlocked a couple of them in different sizes from the hangers. The jacket that Daughter tried on only came in purple in the store, and was not in the exact style.  It didn't look boxy and Daughter found a size that fit her nicely.  So, she decided to order the one online. The online order came; the jacket was too large (even though supposed to be in the same size) and did look boxy after all. She had to return by shipping the jacket back to their warehouse with their return label, and received the full refund. So, the return was pretty painless. Daughter ended up ordering a jacket from another company. We didn't regret going to the store, though. It was a fun experience.

I live states away and was finally in the area, and my visit was very disappointing. The selection of clothing, jewelry, patches, and shoes were amazing, however the customer service left a bad taste in the mouth. There was 5 employees in the store, 1 gentleman and 4 ladies, and the ladies were recording videos and leaving the 1 gentleman to do the customer service, answer questions, and cash customers out. We asked for help with one of the items and one of the ladies replied "oh I'm sorry, we are recording" and proceeded to grab the gentleman from the cash register to come help us instead of doing it themselves. I understand if you are busy and recording, the issue is, they weren't actively recording, and hadn't been recording for 10 minutes at that point. Furthermore, we overheard the lady employees talking amongst themselves and saying to me and my partner something along the lines of "I hope they don't steal a pair of Demonias". If you look on the alleys official TikTok page, majority of the videos are about putting customers down and making fun of questions and comments any normal customer would make in a retail setting. Either way we spent $500+ at the store, and at this point we were being helped by another gentleman while the other guy helping us took a break (the ladies still did not help us at this point). It's very upsetting morally to leave a bad review on a small business that has been around since the 70s, especially because I love the owner and his views, and he works so hard to maintain this business. I just wish the employees cared more about the image of their store.

Many of the little trinkets make references to the many things we love about Chicago. It's a great place to buy gifts for friends. There's a pretty wide range of prices for items but I feel that everything is fairly priced, especially given that they're not mass produced! The cashier was super sweet and accommodating and offered to wrap up the items I had planned of gifting to friends. They prefer cash and charge a 3% service fee on cards.
