Received an estimate on a Monday and mentioned that I'd get back with the 5 Star estimator on…read moreWednesday of the same week due to the fact that I was getting additional estimates. In the interim I had a few questions and reached out to my estimator, he asked how they compared to the other estimates, I said not the highest or the lowest. The estimator said that is where they wanted to be and asked if I had any questions. All seemed ok. 5 Star did their best to get the go ahead on the project and get on their schedule receiving their latest ask on Wednesday. I replied to the email quote on Wednesday evening and countered 5 star to reduce the total cost, ~4% less than the original quote and mentioned I'd pay cash vs card (very common for businesses to offer a 2 to 3% discount if paying with cash/check. My discount ask was reasonable.). Since it was later in the evening I mentioned I would follow up the next morning. Also sent a text message indicating I replied to the quote and call the next day, trying to be respectful of people's time away from work. Thursday morning arrives, I called a few times, left a message, 5 star did call back, missed the call, phone tag. Still I have not received a response to the email, voice mail or text from 5 Star regarding my counter offer. I sent another text restating the offer, finally I get a text back... stating "Unfortunately, we are completely booked out for our exterior projects this year. Five Star Painting". A simple NO would have been ok, but to disrespect a potential customer is unacceptable. Probably would have let it go after that, but I went their website to contact their main office to share my experience. To my surprise, as I opened their website, an ad appears stating 10% off if you book before 10/31 up to $500 off. This discount was not mentioned or indicated anywhere on the quote. Note: The discount I asked for was less than $500, once again undeserving of the estimators response. The final straw that led to this review happened as I started searching for other painting companies and a at least 3 different Facebook ads for 5 Star popped up, once again touting 10% off and that they have openings in their schedule. I told 5 star that if they did a great job on the exterior, I would have additional interior painting. While I wish this review pertained to quality of work, I can only respond to the poor quality of customer service and how not to treat a potential customer.

You should definitely read it from beginning to end if you are even contemplating going with this company. As a homeowner my experience with this company has been disastrous and you need to be aware of what you are getting into. I too looked at all of the good reviews and thought that I couldn't go wrong with such a reputable company. Maybe CertaPro was a good brand at one point but my experience will put a spotlight on who they are now. I am sure that for many homeowner they did a good paint job and for that they were given their 4 and 5 star reviews. But a company is not defined by the times that they do good work, they are defined by the times when they mess up and you get to see their true colors. Are they going to help you, the homeowner? Or are they going to hurt you and leave you out of pocket for tens of thousands of dollars and months of frustration and anxiety that keeps you awake at night. My experience covers who CertaPro is when things go upside down. When they should step up and do the right thing and they absolutely do not. I was floored to learn that the liability insurance they showed me is not actually applicable because all of their workers are subcontracted and those folks who you do not get the chance to vet are responsible for having their own insurance. This company is a glorified General Contractor taking advantage of low cost subcontracted labor posing as a company that actually is doing the work and insuring the work is done right ... THEY ARE NOT!!! My experience covers the countless lies I was told like: 1) We have a carpentry division - THEY DON'T 2) CertaPro will be doing the work - THEY DON'T 3) CertaPro's Insurance will protect me if things go wrong - IT WON'T 4) CertaPro's Laborers are given specific instructions for each job - THEY'RE NOT 5) Spray Painting is the same as Rolling - IT IS NOT 6) We will do the right thing to make things better - THEY WILL NOT If you read this review and still choose them God help you. Very unsatisfactory experience with CertaPro painting the interior of our home - or maybe not…read morepainting it - because they seemed to have subcontracted the job out. The team barely spoke English, they started painting with the wrong color, didn't remove outlet/switch covers and left old paint showing around the edges of covers and hand rails, didn't patch all wall dings/holes, got paint on many things they shouldn't have, left paint on floors and windows, sloppily cut in the paint around corners/ceilings/trim, left tons of drips, fuzz, and small roller debris on walls and doors with the paint, did not silicone gaps in trim and around doors/cabinets, and rushed the painting in a way that made two coats insufficient in many places (only transitioned from a light Grey to an off-white). A CertaPro rep came by halfway through the first day and did not talk to us before leaving; no one else came to check on the job quality. At the end of the job, we decided it was better to just sign off on the job so we can spend even more money on materials to try and fix the issues ourselves rather than continue to receive subpar work and try to bridge the language barrier to express our frustrations.
