Visit on Sat 27th April 2013, lunchtime.
Made a booking the day before, but when I arrived was told to come back in 10 minutes as there weren't enough chairs to sit on. 10 minutes became 50 minutes for a simple breakfast. Obviously under staffed, we watched the owner/cook buy more eggs and defrost bacon in order to fulfill the less than 10 orders the business could not handle during our long wait.
The owner intended to break-even on his Scoopon offer, so the 'Big breakfast' turned out to have 1 small poached egg, a 5 x 7 cm bacon piece, 1 x 5 cm sausage, 2 sliced mushrooms, tiny bit of tomato, 2 pieces of toast (Without butter). We had to ask for the dim sum that was on the menu to receive it. Tastewise, it was on par with home cooking, but such a small serving for something that had a $15.50RRP. Apparently the serving size became this way as the owner received too many unexpected bookings for Sat lunchtime (peak hour).
I paid $9 for the scoopon, which included the 'Big breakfast' detailed above and a small cappacino. With 50 mins wait, any Scoopon holders should get a refund while they can, before this place goes out of business.
The owner has pitched this place as a cut price Western breakfast place in Camberwell which is fine, but a cost cutting approach isn't the right strategy for the location and specialising in a cuisine in which you lack experience isn't the smartest idea. Competition is fierce, and as this place doesn't offer good value, the owner needs to consider re-evaluate his options as anyone who had a Scoopon would not return. read more
