Also, the cafe food quality/value for money was what you'd expect for a British family venue, so I don't even need to elaborate on that point... The large tanks of fish where sharks live with sting rays, a turtle and large fish was very relaxing and fascinating to view. It's all laid out and organised well. I'll give it 7.5/10

It was thoroughly miserable and this is where the aquarium loses one star. There was a queue all day and everyone was forced to queue outdoors in the cold and rain It wasn't helped by the slow selling of tickets. When we finally got to the ticket desk, a contributory cause to this lack of speed became obvious - after we had purchased our tickets (£13 for an adult), we were asked whether we would sign a form to qualify for free attendance for a year. After we had done this, it became clear why they needed our signature - we were asked if we minded if the aquarium reclaimed tax on our tickets. I would have said yes if they had asked that at the beginning but doing it this way round made it feel a little like subterfuge. Especially as it slows the queueing process down for cold, wet customers outside Anyway, enough moaning. Our visit did improve considerably after the slightly iffy start. We did struggle a little to find the entrance but basically, just keep going up and up and you'll enter the first room, which covers the plants and wildlife from the local seas around Plymouth. This room is dominated by 2 large rockpools. A shame that it's stricly see, no touch though - there's no petting pool, which you sometimes see in other aquariums. The small tanks were well labelled, enabling us to find the little residents in each tank. Throughout the aquarium, you'll find a lot of information. You can really feel the educational emphasis here In the next section, you'll encounter the first of the aquarium's starring huge tanks. It's mesmerising to just watch the sea creatures swimming and also interacting with each other. The shark and ray tank is cool in that there are overhead ports, through which you can them swim over you. They've also sunk a whole biplane in another tank to create a habitat for warm water fish That's not say that the small tanks are dull. Au contraire. One of the prettiest creatures were the delicate jellyfish. I also loved the clown fish (Nemo!!) fiercely defending their anemone We lucked out near the end of our visit when we arrived just as Octavia, the aquarium's octopus, was being fed. The staff were really informative, explaining that octopi are as intelligent as 3 year old humans and love to play. They've been known to sneak off to other tanks to eat fish before returning to their tank and acting all innocent. Hence the elaborate access to Octavia's tank. She was given a live crab (she's the only animal which gets fresh food in the aquarium) inside a jar with a screw top. They set Octavia tasks to keep her stimulated and it wasn't long before she had the top off. It's definitely worth finding out when they have feeding times A final tank to see the turtle swimming round before the exit through the cafe or gift shop. A good way to pass the time in Plymouth, once you get in!

The Gym Plymouth offers a fantastic, affordable service…read more Like most gyms, there is a sign up fee, but at £20 + first month's membership, it's a very reasonable price. The facilities are brilliant, with warm showers and lockers, although you will need a padlock (padlocks can be bought in the gym). The actual equipment is great, the gym boasts high-end machines and free weights. The staff, all of whom are qualified personal trainers, are very friendly and do a good job of manning what can be a very busy gym. This brings us to the downside and the reason for awarding 4 starts instead of 5. When a gym offers such a good price, it inevitably becomes very crowded at certain times of the day. Generally this isn't a problem, particularly when working on your cardio, but some pieces of equipment are limited and very popular, meaning you may find yourself disappointed, that or queuing for a period of time, but don't expect the person occupying that equipment to care very much about your needs. It's common place to see one person hogging certain pieces of equipment, just yesterday, one person took over the smith machine for an hour, but also dominated ALL the available weight plates, rendering other bits of equipment useless. To fully enjoy the use of The Gym Plymouth, you may have to carefully plan when you will attend, not completely the fault of the gym, but perhaps they should invest in more of the popular equipment to cut down on members' frustration. All in all, I highly recommend The Gym Plymouth, it's a brilliant environment to train in and there's plenty of help on offer for those who feel they need it to achieve their fitness goals.

As a student, the price is ideal and for what I want it for, I couldn't ask for any more. Locker facilities are good with plenty of space (though a padlock is required) and both changing rooms are spacious. I am predominantly a runner and the treadmills are very versatile and, if you are lucky enough to have a flexible schedule, you can almost be certain you'll be able to use them without any wait or queueing. There are staff around to help, though you don't feel pressured or feel like you're being judged. It can get busy (particularly in the weekday afternoons) though it is well suited to those who like early morning exercise, being 24/7 allowing you to go in as early (or late) as you like. Overall, a great place to have a workout, though if you are a post-work gym goer, expect a wait for some of the facilities (in particular the weight machines and free weights).

This club is owned by The Office's David Brent. But you can't have everything. First-Hand Experience: After visiting the stadium in 04 and liking it, I came to see Argyle play in 07 and 11. What a wonderful experience. Brilliant team, amazing fans. I love watching them and I love the spirit of this team. They are an absolute top notch 5 star team to me with 5 star fans. Southern and Westernmost team in England too. Way down by the sea. Absolutely love it here. I've always loved Plymouth Argyle, I'm not really sure why. My concert down here was mediocre, and outdoor actually, and I haven't found any amazing food in the city. It might be because they play in bright green, or are an old seafaring port city (which is so romantic) and the former capital of the British Naval Fleet (which isn't really a good thing but w/e), and also that they had Olly as their manager (Ian Holloway) which is super fun. He even had the accent to match it. But my fave thing is that they play in bright green and they call this park Home. Literally. They've really fallen from grace, as recently as a few years ago they were flirting with the possibility of promotion to the Premier League and now they're languishing all the way down in the lowest tier. They were formed back in 1886. Very impressive. I've visited this stadium several times over many years and it always looks like a bigger deal than you'd think, probably because the team is such a big deal regionally. The nickname "The Pilgrims" should resonate with Americans, although it's pretty, um, Grim. The city of Plymouth is the largest to have never hosted Premier League/top division football. They're also the most southern and the most western club in the league. I'll give them 5 stars in the hope that it inspires them to rise back up where they belong. With a 17k capacity, they belong in a much higher league.
