So many of us love shoes. Carrie Bradshaw opened up the 'permits for all' on the right to have endless numbers of shoes in a girl's wardrobe. Zomp is the kind of shoe shop where I want to try on at LEAST ten shoes minimum. There's cutesy baby doll, there's cowboy boots, there's wedge, stiletto, strappy and sneaker, there's funky street, star prints and leopard prints, floral and kitsch. You name it, there's a style in there for you. But it's not just the variety I love it's that most of the shoes feel like they've got character... just that little bit of edge that other shoe shops might only have with only one or two shoes. I bought a $200+ pair of Hudson boots from here recently. They are gorgeous and they were on sale which of course was a bonus. Within 1 month unfortunately the sole started to unpeel. I was wearing them incessantly but it was a bit of drag to have to go back to the shop for a fix. The Zomp girls were more than happy to organize a shoe repair on them however I did have to pay extra if I wanted a thicker sole put on them - which I did of course. It was a shame to loose the cute penny farthing imprint on the sole. But now I can stomp these Zomp boots for a very merry long time. The Zomp Footwear for kids next door is a shoe shop filled with gorgeous teeny tot shoes. It's worth a mention for parents as it's a great excuse when the kids need new shoes to pop next door for your own sweet toe treat. One Saturday I was walking past and there were kids selling cup cakes outside. Nice touch.

There aren't many other factory outlets selling shoes that a) stock more than one brand, b) are well organised and look like a regular shop and c) are positively huge with a big range. FSW ticks all three boxes and are predictably cheaper than department stores. Admittedly the styles aren't all in season, but to be honest, the range of shoes is so large that is doesn't matter which season it is, they will have something that suits. There are both mens' and womens' and kids' shoes, not alienating any particular group, but focus is no on sports shoes, in case you are after a sneaker. So if you need shoes for work, casual shoes or something for a special occasion, try here. FSW has brands like Hush Puppy, Sandler, Birkenstock, Windsor Smith, Florsheim, Merrell, Diana Ferrari and many, many more. My favourite part of the shop check out what bargains can be found at the back of the warehouse, where the clearance shelves are. It is still fairly well organised and not a messy mountain of shoes like in other places. I love how they are grouped by sizes, so I can go and browse everything on sale in a size 10-11 and maybe find something I wouldn't ordinarily look twice at. Wasted the day going to various malls where the shoe selection and pricing was abysmal. Come to the rescue Yelp which led me to FSW. Entered a hangar full of shoes with just less than half being dedicated to men. I'm after a thick soled boat lug shoe like timberlands classic 3 eye. They don't have anything like it but I'm able to find something low cost that will do until I find what I need long term. Thanks to FSW I know I'll have dry feet if it rains next week.

Flats, sandals, wedges, mules, boots, heels, espadrilles......too much fun really! Quite often they have in-store promotion "Buy 2 pairs, 50% off 2nd pair' which helps any girl's shoe addiction budget. The shoes are colourful, leather or fur and made with tender loving care. No one has the range and the sizes that Squire has. It is fantastic to find a shoe shop that has a good selection for a small foot, especially sizes 39 and 40. (Which is 6 and 6 1/2). The shop itself is very comfortable and the sales assistant (owner) has a really lovely manner when talking shoes. Shoes are obviously his passion. We spent a good hour in this shop laughing and enjoying good conversation while I tried several pairs of shoes. Yes bought two pairs!

As you come through the ticket gates at Town Hall Station, there in all its glory is Cherry's with exactly that. It's a funny old store Cherry's, with prices ranging from $10 - $400, I guess they want to cater to all demographics that pass by. This shop has the dubious honour of being home to two of my top three pairs of the World's Ugliest Shoes, and although they also have some really great shoes here I love checking in to see if they can out-do themselves! Anything I've ever seen here that I would consider buying has been priced to high for production-line shoes, but that hasn't yet stopped me from checking out every corner of the shop every time I pass by, even if just to see if they have managed to break their own record yet.

I went in there to buy some pole shoes for my next end of term performance at Bobbi's Pole Studio and they are fantastic. I had to order them from the US and it took a couple of weeks to come through. The girls there are sweet and really helpful. I think they all work in the industry so are knowledgeable and can provide some great practical advice. If there's one thing that this store does well, it's service. They once charmed (and I mean charmed…read moreme) into a pair of very expensive Nike trainers. Trainers that were so staggeringly expensive, I still wonder why I bought them when I could have got them online for a third of the price. Here's how I tried to explain the purchase to my bemused husband: "Well, they filmed me walking. Like with a video camera and everything. I got to see myself walking it was really cool. Then he recommended this pair of trainers, in fact, he said they were the only pair in the shop that would suit my particular gait. My husband interjects, 'Was he hot?" "It's not about that, so then he put the shoe on for me and laced it a special way." "Was he hot?" "No but he's a runner and he's just working there whilst he's studying." "Was he hot?" Hangs head, "Yes." He was hot and young and he held my leg and I felt special and I left with the very expensive trainers and I fell for the pseudo-science of it all. If money is no object and you like to feel special then this is a great place for your next runners. They also do Fitflops too, which have to be the most hilarious proposition ever! No doubt I'll be sporting some soon.

Sure, you can try instore and buy online, but frankly I like having good quality local retail and I am a little bit lazy, so once a dedicated and interested salesperson has made the effort to analyse my needs, find me a good pair of shoes and check it works, and offer a one-month guarantee on a recommended product, I'm sold. The range isn't huge, but does span most sports and hiking / trail running. Staff also host a running club.

Palm Beach gets packed with bargain hunters from the Paddington Markets across the road on Saturdays, as do all the shops on this strip, so it can be a little hard to find a spot to try on whatever delight you've picked up, but if Saturday is the only day you can get here it is still well worth a look in, even just to marvel at how they fit so many shoes into a pretty tiny shop- the window display says it all.

I don't know how they've managed it but they've got pretty much one of every shoe that's in fashion right now. Sandals, pumps, wedges, heels, boots in every size colour and shape. My friends and I literally went mad. And what's more...not many of them were over $100. Absolute bargain. My only criticism would be that the shop is absolutely tiny! We found it a bit of a scrum, and I tripped over people far more times than is socially acceptable!
