After the staff evaluation, I was placed in a wheelchair and told for my own safety ( with no falls or history of falls) that I needed to remain in this until the next week eval. There reason for keeping me in a chair was because in the hospital my blood sugar was low but at no point while here did they check it. After eval I was not given or told about a PT schedule which is what I was there for. I was also placed in a room with an older female who could not get herself to the bathroom. Before arriving my doctor told me I would be in rehab for 2wks. The staff at the rehab told me I needed to give 30 day notice. I was told to not cry because I was emotional of being there and if I upset other patients then a psych evaluation would be done. I called my doctor and family members before leaving less than 24hrs. The residents I met and PCA were lovely people but that's it. Most of the amenities that were described in the brochure, were either not shown or discussed. When moving around I didn't see these amenities. For example, personal concierge services, onsite beauty salon, vibrant activities and entertainment. The awful Food uncovered was left on my bed table when I came out of the bathroom and I was not shown a dining area.

The people there from the nurses to the therapists to the social workers to even the people who clean the facility are uniformly friendly and professional. The staff are very attentive to my wife and the fact that her doctors at VCU check on her there regularly and are in touch on a frequent bases with Beaufont gives me great peace of mind that she is being well cared for. One more thing....the food is even good there. I have never said that about any health care facility before and my wife has been in quite a few over the past year and a half. While I wish my wife were home now, I am thankful that she is getting the care she needs to come back to me fully recovered. Very thankful for their care for my wife.

I was sent to Sheltering Arms due to Migraines, and very severe Vertigo. What I found out, thanks…read moreto my very attentive and caring Therapist was so much more. Were it not for her caring and in depth knowledge, I would have just slipped through the medical cracks; as I have for so very many years, and continued to have the trouble I had. My Therapist figured out that the crystals in my ears were severely spread out through multiple passages in my ear canals. Once she fixed those (which took weeks) she discovered huge problems with my balance. Through her patience and testing, I've not only improved, but I have no more Vertigo! This is all she does, this Therapist deals with Migraine and Vertigo, nothing else. I have been (and continue to go) going for over 2 months now, I am able to walk without stumbling, or bumping into walls. My Therapist found out that the 2 nerves in each ear were devastated, due to a medicine I was given back in 2012 to save my life. Sometimes the cure comes at a price, that price was my balance. Thanks to her, I will be seeing specialists regarding my ears and my Migraines. My Therapist also evaluated the 3 types of balance that we all have; eyes, legs, and inner ears. All three of mine have been affected in one way or another, however my eyesight balance has made substantial improvement as well as my leg balance. I am truly grateful to all of the friendly and helpful staff at Sheltering Arms. They are kind and caring people, who give to people like me, far more than they realize. I am never tasked with anything that is beyond my reach, and it is a safe environment to get stronger. My Therapist is cognizant of all of my limitations both there and at home, and she has made me feel comfortable and safe telling her anything regarding my health. She truly has gone the extra mile for me, as far as her knowledge, and her innovations to my therapy program. I would recommend this facility to ANYONE! I would recommend my Therapist to people suffering with Vertigo. She doesn't work miracles, you have to do the work, however she does help and works very hard to make you feel respected, and treated with dignity as a whole person not as a condition.

They are impossible to reach by phone. How can I get an apt. when they do not pick up their phone?…read more I get this odd message that "my call may not be completed". This is unacceptable in health care. I hope their other "standards" are better. If we as patients are unable to get in touch with them, why should I set up any appointments with them? My physician/surgeon also questions this.

I reccommend thinking twice before sending a love one to this facility…read more This was a very upsetting experience for my family. While I was out of town, my cousin stayed with my grandmother for several days and witnessed ongoing neglect. My grandmother cannot feed herself, yet meals were missed unless someone reminded staff or a family member fed her. One evening she wasn't given dinner at all, and staff claimed she had "refused," which is simply not possible given her condition. There were also long delays in care--she was left soiled for extended periods, and when help was requested, it often took far too long for anyone to respond. We also have concerns about medication not being properly administered. On top of that, when I personally asked staff questions, I was met with dismissive and frustrated behavior. What made this even more concerning was seeing similar issues with other patients--calls for help going unanswered and a general lack of attentiveness. I understand facilities can be busy, but this went far beyond that. There is no excuse for this level of care. I left with no confidence in this facility, and I hope they take meaningful steps to improve.

From the very first appointment they were thorough, kind and informative. I was there weekly from Feb 2024-Feb 2025 for Speech and Occupational therapy. It was hard work, and I wasn't sure if I would function in a normal life again, but they worked hard with me and now I can do the things I was doing before. They altered a lot of material, and even came up with new material for me to specifically target my symptoms and my unique mental processing. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for CNS. I highly recommend them. Lisa Morrow- Virginia Beach, VA

From 2004-2006 another local neurologist was treating my daily migraines and many other symptoms from the (as of that time undiagnosed) permanent brain injury that I received in the dog attack. This other neurologist's ONLY treatment for me was Vicodin, which was not helping me, it was only making it worse. He did not listen to me nor do an MRI. At the time that I first went to CNS I was barely able to speak in full sentences. Each morning would start with me being sick, from waking up with a migraine, so I could not be around bright lights w/o extreme pain in my head. I had a severe balance problem causing me to fall down three flights of stairs fracturing my spine in several places. I could go on, but you probably get the picture. Dr. O'Shanick listened to me. He properly diagnosed me and helped me with O.T., Speech Therapy, got me off of the Vicodin and on proper migraine therapy. After two years of daily migraines and not wanting to leave the darkness in my home, I finally started to function again! I could remember words when I would have a conversation with my kids. The migraines slowly went away, thank the Lord! I stopped falling, learning how to deal with my balance being 'off'. In short, thanks to Dr. O'Shanick, I actually feel 'human' again. That can only be understood by someone who has suffered a brain injury. I do still have ringing in my ears, but unfortunately that is permanent. And hey, considering how bad I was, I'm doing pretty great! And I give all the credit to Dr. O'Shanick and his staff. Martinea Mease
