I have to give 5 stars with the situation given to us at hand. I think my expectations going in…read morewere way too high unfortunately, but I had zero issue with the company or my experience with them. Everyone was so friendly and our tour guide Adam was great and funny. I have wanted to swim with the manatees for years and finally decided this was the year, and I have researched so much about best time to see them (November to March and early in the morning when they're "most active") Given my birthday falls in early Feb it was perfect timing I thought and we got on the 7:15 am crew. Well that week Florida was a bit warmer than usual, but I think the main issue which we found out during the presentation was how much the back to back hurricanes in October had affected their food supply which means they were migrating out to colder waters to get food but have to come back to survive. This meant (I guess) WAY LESS manatees than I expected. Every picture you see on the internet is not accurate for the "winter" time lol. I definitely thought I was gonna be in a sea of manatees when really only ONE seam under me. I did see a baby and a mom which is always super sweet, and others on the boat (7 of us including my best friend) had a little bit closer encounters than I actually did. So it's kinda like right place right time. I did happen to be right next to Adam when one swam right up tp him and looked at him (there's a beautiful pic attached he captured). It gets cold lol. It's actually not as cold as I thought it would be getting into the water but being in there for 35-45 minutes my teeth started chattering lol. They provide the wetsuits and unsure if water shoes would help your toesies. My only suggestion would be to make sure everyone has used a snorkel mask before cause I actually never have and when the manatee swam under me I actually inhaled water and couldn't enjoy seeing it all the way since I had to get my face out of the water, I didn't realize you had to really clench your teeth and mouth around the mouthpiece I guess. I understand seeing manatees is out of any company's control (we prob saw 8-10) and everyone seemed to have an amazing time, and don't get me wrong it was a super cool experience and I would absolutely do it again. Also I was afraid of alligators but I guess that's a silly fear that they put to rest. And another side note, there's a lot of companies and a lot of people out there which kinda sucks but I know I'm one of them haha. And last but not least their gift shop is so cute and you can definitely find a nice memory piece to take home.

Captain Ron also helped by pointing out where the fish might be with the sue of his fish finder. We also spent the last hour of our afternoon sight seeing. Captain Ron enabled us to have a wonderful relaxing afternoon with our granddaughters. We would highly recommend Coastal Escapades.

Incredible scalloping experience!…read more My fiancé and I went up to visit the Crystal River Homosassa area for the weekend. I did a quick Google around to find a scalloping charter. I came across mellow mangrove charters. I booked online through their website. It was simple and efficient. I immediately received a confirmation email. We arrived to the location at 6:50 AM for the 7 o'clock departure time. Luckily, all the other guests on the boat arrived on time and we were able to leave promptly. Our captain was knowledgeable and very polite. He took us to a location where there were tons of scallops! He gave us all of the necessary instructions to have a wonderfully productive day! We reached our limit of 2 gallons per person and then we were able to enjoy the rest of the time bubbling around in the water. The boat was clean and comfortable. We are already trying to plan our next adventure to return to homosassa and mellow mangrove charters!

A day out on the water with this outfitter has always been super fun regardless of the number of scallops caught. My group has gone out with a few different captains, all of which have been knowledgeable & safe. The booking process is pretty easy. I always book online - you can even sign the waiver through their website so there is no paperwork to take care of when you arrive at the dock. The boats are comfortable for the short ride out to the scalloping site and we always bring along a well stocked cooler of drinks and snacks to enjoy during our trip. All the snorkel equipment needed to dive for scallops is included in the tour. In general, the equipment is nice and well maintained. The conditions have been a little different every year I have gone - sometimes we catch a lot, sometimes a little. The captain has always dived with us to help search for scallops and moves to new locations as necessary. Cleaning the scallops after returning to the docks has always been easy - sometimes there is a group of high school students who will clean them for you for a fee. If they aren't around, there is a station to clean them yourself, and the captain has always been around to help / walk us through the best process. We will be back again!

Basically has a lot of options to explore the area. You can take an 4 hour tour or two hour tour on kayak. If you really explore in one day use the motor boat is better. The rivers are wide and not much of cover. Sunny day will have big sun on you body, sun cream protection is recommended. The kayak trail have 4 different rout. We choose the homosassa spring head route. They need to improve on facilities. Such as changes clothes area when wet, better rest room facilities instead of potable station, better educate the people who rent the kayak and give details tours recommendations and direction. One thing for sure is they are nice to meet with us. We went to the spring head trail. And we did not know we need to get under the small bridge then further down. Nice to have proximity map. But better instruction to get there is equally importance. We also miss the tunnel river. We found out this point of interest when we get back docking.
