In recent years, Freedom has probably lost a lot of its customers to Ikea. Who can go pass Ikea's bargain prices, simple construction and Swedish designs?
While I practically furnished my entire investment property with Ikea furniture, I spent a lot of time and money at Freedom for my family house.
In my opinion, the difference is that Freedom's furniture is of a higher quality than Ikea, especially when it comes to dining and lounge areas. Plus, the popularity of Ikea has destroyed the earlier innovations of their Swedish design. Now whenever I go to friend's house for parties, you can always spot an Ikea kitchen, dining unit or even their home furnishings.
On the other hand, by being less popular, Freedom is now the one with original, funky furniture. On my last visit, I spotted a gorgeous 1920's Shanghai style recliner and a French Rococo style suspended swing set. The Macgregor Freedom is the epitome of family friendly shopping with easy parking and bathroom facilities located inside the shop.
Extra points for entertainment value as well. On my last visit I saw a depressed five year old kid dressed in a spider man costume being led around on a leash by his mother. It looked like Spiderman had been captured by some terrible villain called the Suburban Parent. It was terrible yet hilarious.
Young families looking at furnishing their first home may have more freedom than ever these days but Freedom furniture is still worth checking out. read more
